Part-Time Program Leader

After-School All-Stars (ASAS) is one of the leading national after-school program providers in the country. Our comprehensive school-based programs combine activities and learning to help build the knowledge and skills children need to succeed, both in school and in life.

We are seeking Program Leaders to join our after-school programs in Washington, DC. This role is ideal for individuals who are reliable, mission-driven, and passionate about working with youth in an educational setting. Successful candidates are self-starters who demonstrate integrity, initiative, and a proven ability to mentor and engage elementary and middle school students.

At ASAS, Program Leaders play a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where students can learn, grow, and have fun. The ideal candidate brings enthusiasm and, preferably, expertise in a specific subject area to design and lead meaningful enrichment activities.

Position: Program Leader

Reports to: Site Coordinator

Locations: We serve different DCPS elementary/middle schools across NE, SW, and SE. Currently, we have programs at the following sites:

Langley Elementary School, 101 T ST NE, Washington, D.C. 20002
Jefferson Middle School Academy, 801 7th St SW, Washington, DC 20024.
Johnson Middle School, 1400 Bruce Pl SE, Washington, DC 20020
Stuart Hobson Middle School, 410 E Street NE, Washington, DC 20002
McKinley Middle School, 151 T Street NE, Washington, DC 20002
Browne Middle School, 850 26th St NE, Washington, DC 20002

Work Hours: This is a part-time position with a schedule of two to five days a week from 2:30-6:00pm. The tour of duty is typically 17.5 hours per week.

Compensation: $18-20/hour, commensurate to experience in youth development/teaching.

Benefits:

Responsibilities

The Program Leader, under the direction of the Site Coordinator, is responsible for the daily implementation of the After-School All-Stars program model. Training will be offered. A Program Leader is required to support or facilitate an hour of academic online tutoring/homework completion and related academic activities daily and is required to teach at least four enrichment classes per week. Additional duties as assigned might include chaperoning students on field trips, participating in family engagement activities, participating in funder program visits and evaluator focus groups, leading mentoring activities, and participating in all-staff meetings and retreats.

Youth Supervision:

Supervise students at all times. Full engagement with students is expected always
Arrive at work on time and ready to deliver a lesson
Follow the ASAS code of student conduct when disciplining students. Training is provided

Lesson Plan Development:

Create and/or follow quality lesson plans to ensure student engagement and safe learning environments; and provide a structure designed to incorporate the end-of-session culminating event
Propose and help plan one field trip for each 8- 10 week program cycle
Attend professional development activities and weekly site meetings

Collaboration & Site Support:

Work closely with the Site Coordinator and team to ensure high-quality programming
Participate in weekly site meetings and ongoing professional development
Support student recruitment and program promotion
Build positive relationships with students, families, school staff, and partners

Facilitation:

Collaborate with Site Coordinator and fellow Program Leaders to establish and maintain high quality program
Support student recruitment and promotion of the program
Create and maintain an inviting, safe and orderly environment, including ensuring cleanliness of classrooms, auditorium, and other program areas
Maintain professional and positive relationships with school staff, partners, students and parents
Teach sessions with enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and passion

Data Management:

Maintain accurate attendance data and reports on activities as assigned
Submit required data on time and accurately

Experience and Education

The successful candidate will have a year or more of non-profit or related youth development program experience (including volunteer experience). The individual will have a familiarity with and passion for working with marginalized youth.

Requirements:

Some undergraduate study with coursework in education, social or human services, child development, or related fields are highly desirable.
One or more years’ experience (paid or volunteer) working in an after school, day camp, or community youth outreach setting, primarily of the middle school age, is required.
Experience creating lesson plans or multi-week curriculum is preferred.
The ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with school district staff, program staff, parents, and community leaders is a must.
The ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others as well as respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in an emergency is a must.
Familiarity and experience with diverse populations and cultural competencies are strongly desired.
Excellent organizational skills are a must
Must clear DCPS required criminal history background check, which includes FBI fingerprinting, sex offender registry check, TB screening and eventually TB test, and drug/alcohol test.
You must have reliable transportation to report to the assigned site on time every day.

Start Date: at the earliest, August 15, 2026, until June 30, 2027, at the latest, with mandatory August training and other professional development throughout the year. August training is a condition of work.
