Market Manager – Grocery/Retail

Salary: $70,000–$90,000 per year, based on experience

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Market Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of our Market, an onsite grocery and convenience market serving our large residential community.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced grocery, convenience store, or retail manager who enjoys taking ownership of an operation, leading a team, and finding ways to grow the business.

The Market Manager is responsible for the overall performance of the store, including staffing, inventory, merchandising, purchasing, vendor relationships, sales, profitability, customer service, food safety, and loss prevention.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee all daily market operations, including opening and closing procedures
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and develop market employees
Manage inventory, purchasing, receiving, pricing, merchandising, and product displays
Maintain appropriate inventory levels and ensure the market remains fully stocked
Build and maintain strong vendor relationships and coordinate deliveries
Monitor sales, margins, operating expenses, and inventory shrink
Identify opportunities to increase sales, improve margins, and reduce operating costs
Oversee cash handling, register reconciliation, and loss prevention procedures
Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and inviting store environment
Ensure compliance with food safety, health, sanitation, and company policies
Deliver exceptional customer service and professionally resolve resident concerns
Monitor equipment and coordinate maintenance and repairs as needed
Continuously look for ways to improve the customer experience and overall performance of the market

Qualifications

3–5 years of grocery, convenience store, or retail management experience
Previous supervisory or management experience required
Experience with inventory management, purchasing, vendor relationships, POS systems, and cash handling
Strong leadership and team-development skills
Strong understanding of sales, margins, inventory control, and loss prevention
Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills
Dependable, organized, and comfortable taking ownership of the operation
High school diploma or GED required; college coursework preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Schedule & Physical Requirements

This is a hands-on management position. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, work in refrigerated areas, and be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when business needs require.

Salary: $75,000–$90,000 per year, based on experience
