Full Job Description

Prince William Academy, a secular preschool and private school in Lake Ridge, Virginia, is seeking a knowledgeable, dependable, and hands-on Child Care Director to support our Early Years and school-age child care programs.

This position combines child care licensing and compliance responsibilities, family and enrollment support, and direct involvement in our programs. During the first part of the day, the Director will help manage licensing documentation, VQB5 requirements, student and staff records, admissions, and general program operations. From approximately 3:00–6:00 p.m., the Director will take an active leadership role in our Elementary Aftercare Program.

The ideal candidate has experience with Virginia child care licensing requirements, strong administrative and organizational skills, excellent customer-service abilities, and a genuine willingness to work directly with children and support classrooms when needed.

Schedule: Approximately 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., Monday–Friday
Position Type: Full-time, year-round

Primary ResponsibilitiesLicensing and Compliance

Support the administration and ongoing compliance of the school’s licensed Early Years and school-age child care programs.
Maintain accurate licensing documentation, student records, staff files, attendance records, training records, and required program forms.
Help ensure continued compliance with Virginia child care licensing standards, school policies, staff-to-child ratios, supervision requirements, and health and safety procedures.
Coordinate VQB5 participation, documentation, classroom observations, improvement planning, and related requirements.
Monitor staff credentials, required training, background checks, CPR and First Aid certifications, and documentation deadlines.
Help prepare for licensing visits, inspections, audits, and quality-assurance reviews.
Assist leadership in identifying compliance concerns and following through on corrective actions.
Remain current on changes to applicable licensing regulations and child care best practices.

Family, Enrollment, and Admissions Support

Respond promptly and professionally to parent inquiries by phone, email, and in person.
Build positive relationships with prospective and current families and provide a warm, welcoming experience.
Support the enrollment and admissions process, including responding to inquiries, following up with prospective families, and assisting with required paperwork.
Conduct or support family tours and communicate information about the school’s programs, schedules, policies, and enrollment process.
Maintain accurate enrollment records and help ensure that required student documentation is complete and current.
Support new families through the enrollment and transition process.
Work collaboratively with school leadership and administrative staff to support enrollment goals and family retention.

Aftercare Program Leadership

Take an active, in-program leadership role in the Elementary Aftercare Program, primarily serving students in Grades K–2 from approximately 3:00–6:00 p.m.
Help plan and lead a structured, engaging daily program that may include snack, homework support, enrichment activities, indoor and outdoor play, and student choice.
Supervise children actively and maintain a safe, positive, organized, and nurturing environment.
Support positive student behavior and communicate appropriately with families regarding the aftercare program.
Ensure aftercare attendance, dismissal, authorized pick-up, ratio, and supervision procedures are followed consistently.
Support aftercare staff and help ensure that daily program expectations are implemented effectively.

Classroom and Program Support

Serve as a classroom floater and provide support when needed for teacher breaks, staff absences, classroom transitions, and ratio coverage.
Assist teachers with classroom activities, student supervision, room organization, and daily routines when needed.
Support student arrival and dismissal, school events, and other day-to-day program needs.
Work collaboratively with school leadership and teaching staff to help programs operate smoothly and respond to changing needs throughout the day.

Qualifications

Previous experience in a licensed child care center, preschool, early childhood program, or school-age program is required.
Experience with Virginia child care licensing standards and compliance processes is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with VQB5, quality-improvement systems, and licensing documentation is highly desirable.
Prior experience as a child care director, assistant director, program coordinator, licensing specialist, or lead teacher is preferred.
Must meet, or be able to meet, all applicable Virginia qualification requirements for the position.
Strong organizational skills and careful attention to documentation, deadlines, and regulatory requirements.
Ability and willingness to work directly with children each day.
Strong written and verbal communication and customer-service skills.
Ability to work professionally and effectively with children, families, teachers, administrators, and licensing representatives.
Must successfully complete all required background checks and maintain required certifications.
