Full Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Job Coach/Direct Support Professional is responsible for providing vocational assistance and support, and liaison and advocacy services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in order to place and/or maintain these individuals in competitive employment in the community. People with developmental disabilities often need the assistance and support of a Job Coach/Employment Specialist to make them successful in their work environment. The Job Coach/Employment Specialist has the responsibility of teaching them the skills they need to be able to perform the job. Along the way, they also provide encouragement and support as they build up the person's self-confidence.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist adults, with developmental disabilities and other significant barriers to employment, focusing on work related skills and other "soft skills training" such as travel-training and on-the-job training/job coaching at the person's job site. This may also include resume writing, interviewing skills, interpersonal communication, proper keyword use when job searching, etc.
Assist in the development of effective Person-Centered Care Planning Individual Vocational Goals/Plans for participants who are currently employed and/or who have expressed interest in finding maintaining employment.
Maintains established collaborative relationships and communication with the person's supervisor, other project staff, referring agencies, family members, and other support persons, to ensure person's needs are addressed to support their accomplishments of vocational/personal work-related outcomes.
Provides on-the-job supports and follow-up activities in a timely, consistent manner to support successful employment outcomes for the program participants.
Monitors overall client progress on the job and completes and submits daily, monthly and/or quarterly progress reports of program participants' program participation within the timeframe according to guidelines.
When necessary and with proper consent maintain regular contact with participant’s, guardians, residential team, family members and other supporters.
Serves as a liaison to others involved in program planning, conflict resolution and on-going clinical and vocational support, as directed.
Conducts and attends internal and external program, staff, and training meetings as required.
Maintain a caseload of no more than five (5) participants to assist with their vocational rehabilitation/employment status.
Provide education of participants and support to employers when necessary and with proper consent of working participants. Assist participants with negotiating reasonable accommodations as per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Identify job site modifications as needed. Recommendations are to be discussed with the Supervisor first.
Must be able to stand/walk building grounds for at least 4-5 hours.
Comply with the policies and procedures of the job sites.
