RSU 5786 West RoadWaterboro, ME 04087Registered School Nurse - SubstituteQualifications: Must hold a current license in the State of Maine as a Registered Professional NurseBachelor of Science degree (four year) from an accredited institutionValid provision or professional state certificate to serve as a school nurseCompleted fingerprinting in accordance with school requirementsMinimum of two years nursing experience in pediatrics, community health or as a school nurseHolds current BLS certificationReports to: Building administration and superintendentJob Goal: To provide health services that ensure health and safety of students and staff in RSU 57Essential Functions: Ability to create and maintain positive relations with students, school personnel, parents and citizens within scope of practiceAbility to collaborate with the appropriate stakeholders to maintain high quality of servicesDemonstrates sound judgment and effective communication skillsRespects and protects the confidentiality of students, staff, and familiesPerformance Responsibilities: Works as a member of the district health services team within scope of individual's trainingUnderstands and complies with school district policies and procedures, state statutes, and limitationsProvides health assessments, develops and implements health plans for studentsProvides care for illness and injury to students in accordance with written protocolsFollows the standard health practices for school settings as listed by the School Health Manual, Maine Department of EducationDevelops an Individualized Health Plan (IHP) or Medical 504 for each student that has special health care needs requiring nursing assessment, intervention or supervision.This includes health assessments, completion of each student's health plan, maintenance of appropriate student health plans, interventions including administration of medication and documentation of student health recordsEducates staff regarding emergency measures required until medical help is availableImplements the school medication policy and procedurePromotes control of communicable diseases through preventive immunization programs, early detection, surveillance, and reporting of contagious diseasesProvides health information to assist students and families in making health- related decisions in the school settingParticipates in health aspects of kindergarten pre-registration (if appropriate)Participates in medical clearances (physicals, allergies, previous medical condition, etc) (if appropriate)Participates in in-season return process from sports related injuries, including doctor clearances and trainer information (if appropriate)Serves as a health liaison between school, home and the communityWorks effectively with individuals, public and private agencies & other community groups to assure that student health needs are being metEnsures that the necessary and appropriate medical/health-related resources are available to all persons who are responsible for providing health care before a child is placed in the classroomMay be called upon to serve as a resource person for classroom teachers on health issues or as a resource for the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team. Upon request, the nurse will incorporate the care plan into the IEPMay be responsible for case management of medical 504s as appropriatePrepares the budget for school health supplies and first aid kits for school settingsOther duties and responsibilities as assignedLegal and Ethical Duties: Maintains confidentiality related to all aspects of student performance and written or oral recordsDemonstrates a respect for the legal and human rights of studentsMeets and follows all laws and regulations at both the state and federal levelsFollows health and safety procedures established by the districtArrives and departs punctually, notifying appropriate personnel about absences and coverageDemonstrates loyalty, dependability, integrity, and other ethical standardsFollows the chain of command for various administrative procedures for student or program concernsObserves all RSU 57 policies and related school proceduresTerms of Employment: Salary, work year and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on evaluation.Physical DemandsFrequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, and liftingAbility to perform physical tasks such as climbing stairs, kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pullingReasonable accommodations may be provided as requiredEqual Opportunity EmployerRSU 57 is committed to providing a workplace free from discrimination and harassment.
