Full Job Description

OVERVIEW:
The primary concern of the Bilingual Medical Assistant is exceptional patient care. We have an opening for an experienced, energetic and hardworking Medical Assistant that will work with a provider and travel between two medical offices located in the Houston, Texas area: approximately within a 30-mile radius. Candidates with Dermatology experience and Spanish speaking skills will be given priority.

The job duties listed are descriptive and characteristic of the duties required, and the level of the work performed in the job title. The following responsibilities will generally be allocated to the Back Office Medical Assistant; however, responsibilities are not limited to this listing only. Additional duties can be assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

2+ years of Dermatology experience within the last 3 years. Internship/ school rotations are not applicable. REQUIRED.
2+ years of Medical Assistant (back office preferred) experience within the last 3 years. REQUIRED.
Experience working with ECW (preferred) and EMR/EHR systems REQUIRED.
High school diploma or equivalent REQUIRED.
Transcribing REQUIRED.
Bilingual in English and Spanish REQUIRED.
MOHS experience PREFERRED.
Able to use templates and smart forms.
Perform MIPS quality control on every patient.
Demonstrated ability to manage medical records accurately while maintaining confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines
Follows all safety procedures including biohazard, needle and sharps safety
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Treats patients, visitors and co-workers with respect.
Ability to work as a team member.
Able to work with front and back-office staff and provider to create a smooth patient flow.
Ability to work well with physicians, anticipating their needs regarding patient treatment.
Good understanding of skin anatomy.
Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
Well-organized with attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Empathetic with patient needs and concerns.

Responsibilities:
Primary Duties

Escort patients to exam rooms in order of appointment times. Obtain short history and vital signs as required by patient’s chief complaint. Obtain or update medication list when/if necessary.
Set up exam room according to scheduled procedure or anticipate physicians need if non-scheduled procedure is likely.
Assist physician with biopsies and surgical procedures such as excisions, ED&C, cryotherapy, laser surgery, Mohs, etc.
Educate patients as required after physician establishes the treatment plan. This includes ensuring the patient understands the treatment plan and proper use of their medications as well as confirming the patient understands their responsibility for compliance with the treatment plan prior to leaving the office.
Straighten/clean exam rooms after patient visits.
Perform nursing procedures such as suture removal, dressing changes, and chemical wart therapy, without direct physician supervision.
Completely and correctly fill out all required pathology and laboratory requisition documents for patients as required by physician. Provide clinical staff with all completed documents for data entry into the biopsy book.
Submit and follow up on biologic paperwork until completion.
Obtain consent forms for surgical procedures and ABN.

Secondary Duties

Stock all exam rooms.
Performs all duties related to medical instrument cleaning and sterilization.
Inventory office and medical supplies. Send order requests to the appropriate person.
Help with triage calls regarding prescription questions, surgical questions, etc. when needed.
Log all surgical specimens submitted to pathology in the biopsy book. Log final diagnosis upon receipt of consultation report (or when slides are read by physician) in the biopsy book.
Organize medication samples according to drug categories and pull outdated medications from sample room.
Performs all duties and maintain documentation for appropriate biohazard material management.
Perform other duties and tasks as needed.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday. Occasionally, Saturday’s may be required.

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
