Position Summary
The Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) is seeking a passionate, organized and relationship-focused Membership Engagement and Development Coordinator to help grow and strengthen OAC's nationwide community of members, donors, partners and supporters. This position combines the day-to-day coordination of fundraising, membership and community engagement programs with dedicated communications and campaign execution for the Membership & Development department.
Working under the direction of the Director of Membership & Development and collaboratively across departments, this role coordinates donor and membership administration, fundraising initiatives, engagement activities and events while transforming approved strategies and priorities into compelling, people-first communications. Through strong relationship-building, storytelling, project coordination, database management and exceptional execution, the Coordinator helps support membership growth and retention, donor engagement and long-term philanthropic support.

The Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to elevating and empowering individuals affected by obesity through education, advocacy, awareness and support. We work to eliminate weight bias, improve access to science-based obesity care and build a welcoming community where every person feels respected, informed and empowered.
Primary Responsibilities Development & Fundraising
- Coordinate annual giving campaigns, GivingTuesday, peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives, year-end appeals, planned giving and other approved fundraising campaigns.
- Assist with donor cultivation, stewardship, recognition and benefit administration, including acknowledgment letters, tax receipts, thank-you messages and impact updates.
- Maintain accurate donor records and process donations and recurring gifts within the organization’s CRM/database.
- Generate fundraising reports, track campaign performance and support grant administration and sponsorship fulfillment as assigned.
- Develop and coordinate fundraising communications and campaign assets in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications team.
Membership & Community Engagement
- Coordinate new member onboarding, recruitment, renewal and upgrade campaigns for OAC Community and Community+.
- Respond to member inquiries with professionalism, empathy and exceptional customer service.
- Monitor membership trends and engagement, and share observations that may strengthen recruitment, retention and participation.
- Develop member communications including email campaigns, newsletters, special announcements and value-focused messaging.
- Encourage supporters to volunteer, advocate, participate in campaigns and engage with OAC programs and events.
Content Development & Storytelling
- Serve as a primary content writer for Membership & Development communications.
- Write and edit email campaigns, newsletters, blog articles, website content, social media copy, print materials and campaign messaging.
- Interview members, supporters and staff to gather stories, testimonials and campaign content.
- Adapt content for multiple communication channels while maintaining consistent messaging and OAC’s compassionate, people-first voice.
Campaign Execution & Digital Communications
- Execute approved Membership & Development communication plans and coordinate project timelines, schedules, reviews, approvals and deliverables.
- Build, proof, schedule and deploy approved email campaigns; coordinate webpage and landing-page updates through established organizational processes.
- Create social media copy and coordinate graphic design requests with the Marketing & Communications team.
- Maintain the Membership & Development editorial calendar, approved messaging, campaign templates, communication assets and content libraries.
- Coordinate communications supporting initiatives such as GivingTuesday, Year-End Giving, National Make-A-Will Month, Planned Giving, OAC Step Challenge, Corporate Council, Nonprofit Champions, etc.
Database Management, Segmentation & Reporting
- Maintain donor and membership databases with a high level of accuracy, integrity and confidentiality.
- Process memberships, donations and recurring gifts, and manage or assist with audience/list segmentation for communications and campaigns.
- Generate reports for fundraising, membership, communications and leadership needs.
- Track communication performance including email engagement, website activity and campaign participation; prepare regular summaries of metrics and engagement trends.
- Maintain organized documentation of campaign materials, supporter activity and communication performance.
Events & Volunteer Engagement
- Assist with planning and execution of fundraising events, donor appreciation activities and member engagement opportunities.
- Support Membership & Development initiatives related to OAC educational programs and the Your Weight Matters National Convention.
- Coordinate volunteer support related to development and community engagement initiatives.
- Assist with donor, member and supporter recognition activities.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Nonprofit Management or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Two to four years of professional experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, membership, communications, marketing, community engagement or a related field.
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience creating content for email, websites, blogs, social media and/or print communications.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities, with experience coordinating multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience using CRM systems, donor databases and/or email marketing platforms.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Preferred
- Experience working in a nonprofit organization, healthcare organization or membership association.
- Experience supporting membership, fundraising or donor communications.
- Experience with Salesforce, Bloomerang, Raiser’s Edge, Salsa Engage or similar CRM platforms.
- Experience using a content management system (CMS), email marketing analytics and audience segmentation.
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Express or similar creative platforms.
- Passion for nonprofit advocacy, healthcare or patient-centered organizations.
- Skills: Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, CRM Software/Database (i.e. Salsa Labs, Raiser’s Edge, etc.), AP Style, WYSIWYG Content Management Platforms, all social media platforms, Canva, WordPress and more
