TAX PREPARER – TAX RESOLUTION

Job Type: Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY

A tax resolution firm is seeking an experienced Tax Preparer to prepare individual and business tax returns for clients with active tax matters. This position also includes regular Case Manager responsibilities, such as communicating with clients, collecting documents, monitoring cases, tracking deadlines, and coordinating with internal departments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Tax Preparation

Prepare current, delinquent, and amended federal and state tax returns.
Prepare individual and business returns, including Forms 1040, 1040-X, 1065, 1120, and 1120-S.
Handle complex S Corporation filings involving Schedule K-1, shareholder basis, distributions, and reasonable compensation.
Prepare applicable Schedules C, E, and F.
Review IRS account transcripts, wage and income transcripts, prior returns, financial records, and supporting documentation.
Reconstruct income and expenses when client records are incomplete.
Identify missing information, discrepancies, compliance concerns, and potential tax issues.
Communicate with clients regarding required documents and outstanding information.
Maintain organized workpapers and complete returns within established deadlines.
Follow all confidentiality, compliance, and taxpayer-information security requirements.

Case Management

Manage an assigned caseload of tax preparation and tax resolution clients.
Review each client’s engagement scope, case history, filing requirements, balances, and collection activity.
Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients.
Provide clients with professional updates regarding case progress, required information, and next steps.
Request and follow up on tax documents, financial information, signatures, questionnaires, and other required records.
Review IRS and state notices and identify matters requiring immediate attention or escalation.
Assist with gathering and organizing documentation for installment agreements, offers in compromise, currently-not-collectible status, penalty abatement, and other resolution services.
Coordinate with Tax Resolution, Billing, Legal, Compliance, and other internal departments.
Maintain complete case notes, tasks, documents, deadlines, and follow-up dates in the case management system.
Escalate urgent collection activity, missed deadlines, client concerns, and compliance issues to the appropriate manager or licensed representative.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Professional experience preparing federal and state individual tax returns.
Experience preparing partnership, C Corporation, and S Corporation returns.
Working knowledge of Forms 1040, 1040-X, 1065, 1120, and 1120-S.
Understanding of Schedule K-1 reporting, shareholder basis, distributions, and reasonable compensation.
Ability to read and analyze IRS account and wage and income transcripts.
Active and valid Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).
Strong client-service, communication, organization, and follow-up skills.
Ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and document requests.
Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping.
Proficiency with professional tax software, case-management systems, and Microsoft Office.
Ability to handle confidential taxpayer and financial information with professionalism and discretion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working for a tax resolution, tax relief, accounting, or tax representation firm.
Experience preparing delinquent and amended returns involving multiple tax years.
Familiarity with IRS collection procedures and common tax resolution programs.
Experience working directly with clients who have active IRS or state collection matters.
