Position Summary
Wellness Housing of AR, LLC operates a Medicare transitional living residence providing a safe, structured, and supportive living environment for adults in recovery from mental health and/or substance use conditions. The House Manager resides on-site and is responsible for the daily operation of the residence — house-rules enforcement, occupancy administration, resident safety, coordination of transportation, and observation logistics. The House Manager supports residents' stability and successful transition to independent living for Medicare clients.
Key Responsibilities
House operations & rules.
- Enforce house rules, curfews, and the drug- and alcohol-free environment consistently and fairly.
- Conduct and log routine safety checks, room/common-area walkthroughs, and required unit inspections per house policy.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe residence; coordinate chore assignments and basic upkeep; report maintenance needs.
- Create and maintain the house chore board; assign, post, and track resident chores and rotations.
- Ensure the house is kept clean and orderly, and that common areas and resident spaces meet house standards.
- Ensure the house is adequately stocked with necessary supplies (household, cleaning, and program supplies); monitor inventory and coordinate restocking.
- Administer occupancy logistics: move-ins, move-outs, room assignments, occupancy logs, and resident sign-in/out.
- Facilitate a weekly house meeting with residents — a community meeting where residents check in about house issues (chores, schedules, shared spaces, rules, transportation, household concerns) and work together toward solutions. This is a household/community meeting about shared living; it is not a therapeutic, counseling, process, or recovery group, and it does not address clinical or treatment matters.
Resident safety & support (non-clinical).
- Provide a supportive, respectful, peer-level presence and a stable household environment.
- Observe and document rule compliance, incidents, and safety concerns on non-clinical incident/observation logs.
- Provide and coordinate resident transportation, including to and from the clinic, weekly grocery runs, medical and other appointments, group outings, and errands. Maintain a transportation log and drive safely in accordance with house policy.
- Observe and log resident self-administration of medications where house policy requires, without handling medications.
- Address resident concerns promptly and, where able, resolve them directly — unless the concern is clinical in nature, in which case refer the resident to their therapist or the supervising clinical staff rather than attempting to address it.
- Address compliance, incident, and safety concerns immediately — follow house protocols, take appropriate action, notify the supervisor/on-call staff, and document the event on the non-clinical incident/observation log.
- Respond to household emergencies: follow emergency protocols, contact emergency services (911) and on-call staff, and document the event.
Communication & reporting.
- The House Manager shall address and report concerns — addressing them directly where able, and reporting them promptly to the Director/supervisor (or, for clinical concerns, to the resident's therapist or clinical staff).
- Report resident concerns, rule violations, safety issues, and clinical needs promptly to the supervisor or the resident's treatment provider.
- Maintain accurate, timely, non-clinical logs (occupancy, incidents, transportation, house checks).
- Communicate professionally and maintain appropriate boundaries with residents at all times.
Confidentiality
The House Manager will have incidental access to information about residents. All resident information must be kept strictly confidential and handled in accordance with applicable federal and state privacy law, including 42 CFR Part 2 where it applies to substance use disorder information, and any applicable HIPAA obligations of the affiliated provider. Resident information is not to be discussed with anyone other than authorized staff.
Required Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older; high school diploma or GED.
- Arkansas Peer Recovery / Peer Support Specialist certification through the Arkansas Peer Recovery Program (“The Arkansas Model”), Core level or above — or eligibility and willingness to obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Holding this certification does not change the non-clinical scope of the House Manager position described above.
- Valid Arkansas driver's license, acceptable driving record, and insurable status (transportation is a job duty).
- Ability to reside on-site and maintain a consistent live-in presence as scheduled.
- Sustained personal recovery consistent with Arkansas Peer Recovery Program eligibility — at least two (2) years of sustained recovery for an applicant qualifying through lived experience — and adherence to the Arkansas Peer Recovery Code of Ethics, consistent with a drug- and alcohol-free residence (per house policy). Certification is administered through the DHS Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (OSAMH) via its DHS-approved certification entity (NAADAC).
- Ability to enforce rules fairly, de-escalate conflict, and maintain professional boundaries.
- Kind, compassionate, alert, and aware — someone residents can look up to. Consistently models positive, healthy behavior so residents can learn from and emulate it.
- Satisfactory background check as required by Arkansas law and employer policy.
- Working and resident privacy obligations (including 42 CFR Part 2 where it applies to substance use information); able to safeguard resident information and maintain confidentiality.
- Basic recordkeeping and communication skills; ability to follow written protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Lived experience with recovery from mental health and/or substance use conditions.
- Prior experience in transitional/recovery housing, residential, or peer-support settings.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Physical & Scheduling Requirements
- Live on-site; availability across assigned on-duty hours, including overnight presence as scheduled.
- Able to move about a multi-room/multi-level residence, respond quickly in emergencies, and perform light physical tasks.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds — such as luggage, boxes of supplies, and household items — and assist with tasks like moving a bed.
- Able to drive residents as assigned.
Scope Limitation — Non-Clinical Position
This is a material term of the position. The residence is transitional housing, not a licensed treatment facility, and the House Manager role must remain clearly non-clinical. The House Manager shall NOT:
- Facilitate, co-facilitate, or lead any therapeutic, counseling, process, or recovery group, or any group addressing residents' clinical, treatment, or personal recovery matters. (Facilitating the weekly house meeting on household/community business, as described under Key Responsibilities, is permitted and is not a clinical activity.)
- Provide individual counseling, case management, clinical assessment, or treatment planning.
- Write, sign, co-sign, or contribute to any clinical record, progress note, or service documentation.
- Administer, dispense, or handle resident medications (may observe resident self-administration and log that it occurred, per house policy, without touching or controlling the medication).
- Diagnose, counsel on, or advise regarding any mental health or substance use condition, symptom, or treatment.
- Represent themselves as a clinician, counselor, therapist, technician, or treatment provider.
Compensation & Lodging
This is a non-exempt, hourly position. Compensation and the treatment of on-site lodging (whether provided in addition to wages or as a lodging credit toward wages) will be specified in the employee's written compensation agreement, consistent with the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (including live-in/sleep-time and lodging-credit rules) and Arkansas wage law. Only hours actually worked are compensable as provided in that agreement.
At-Will Employment & On-Site Residency
Employment is at-will and may be terminated by either party at any time, with or without cause or notice, subject to applicable law.
The on-site lodging provided with this position is furnished solely as a condition of employment for the convenience of the employer and to enable the House Manager to perform the duties of the role. It is not a lease, rental agreement, or tenancy, and it does not create any landlord-tenant relationship, leasehold, or other property or occupancy right in the House Manager. Occupancy of the residence is incidental to employment and continues only for so long as the individual is employed as House Manager. When employment ends for any reason, the right to occupy the residence ends, and the House Manager will vacate as provided in the employee's written agreement. The employer will follow applicable Arkansas law regarding removal of an occupant.
