The Assistant Bookkeeper is responsible for supporting the daily workflow and processing activities of the Bookkeeping Department while providing prompt and professional service to Bank customers. The position requires effective communication and collaboration with other team members to resolve daily processing issues and complete assigned duties accurately and within established deadlines. A basic knowledge of banking operations is preferred to support other functions within the department.
Responsibilities:
- Provide customer service by responding to telephone calls and emails from customers regarding their accounts
- Assist customers with internet banking and mobile banking questions or issues
- Review and verify account holds and stop-payment requests
- Support wire transfer processing and verification in accordance with established procedures and internal controls
- Process customer notices, letters, and other account-related correspondence
- Review and process dormant account activity
- Assist with account analysis processing
- Support accounts payable processing
- Process incoming and outgoing mail, including trips to the local post office
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of customer and Bank information
- Follow applicable Bank policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and internal controls
- Identify and communicate unusual activity, processing errors, or potential fraud concerns to appropriate personnel
- Assist other members of the Bookkeeping Department as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- One to two years of bookkeeping, banking, accounting, or related experience preferred
- Strong analytical and logical-thinking skills
- Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to provide professional and courteous customer service
- Basic proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and email
- Ability to learn and use Bank systems, software, policies, and procedures
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive customer and Bank information appropriately
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to the local post office as required

Pay: $12.00–$16.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience
