About the Role

A legacy Italian restaurant that's been a fixture in NYC for more than 30 years is looking for an Executive Chef to lead our kitchen and take full ownership of the culinary program. This is a high-visibility leadership role for a chef who wants real influence over the menu, the numbers, and the team — with direct access to the General Manager and ownership.

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Executive Chef to lead our culinary team and elevate our food service operations, and take our restaurant and reputation into the next generation. This role offers an exciting opportunity to craft exceptional dining experiences, oversee all aspects of kitchen management, and ensure the highest standards of food quality, safety, and presentation.

As an energetic and committed leader, you will inspire your team, manage diverse culinary functions, and drive innovation in menu development while maintaining strict adherence to food safety and sanitation procedures. Your expertise will be pivotal in creating a vibrant, memorable atmosphere that delights guests and supports our commitment to excellence in hospitality.

Responsibilities

Lead and supervise all kitchen staff, fostering a positive team environment focused on collaboration, creativity, and high performance
Oversee food preparation, presentation, and quality control across all dining services, including fine dining, catering, and banquet events
Develop innovative menus that balance culinary artistry with operational efficiency, ensuring menu items meet dietary needs and customer preferences
Own food cost: build and maintain accurate menu costing, manage vendor relationships, and control inventory to keep quality high while keeping cost in check
Build smart labor schedules that flex with business volume, not habit
Enforce strict food safety sanitizing procedures and hygiene practices across the kitchen to ensure compliance with health regulations
Oversee catering operations and event services, ensuring seamless execution from planning through service delivery
Monitor food industry trends and incorporate new techniques or ingredients to keep offerings fresh and competitive
Hire, train, and develop a strong kitchen team, and build a culture of accountability and pride in the work
Partner closely with the GM and ownership on performance, planning, and business decisions

Qualifications

Extensive culinary experience as an Executive Chef / Executive Sous Chef with a strong background in fine dining environments; banquet and catering experience highly preferred
Proven supervising experience managing kitchen teams in fast-paced settings with multiple service styles
Deep knowledge of food production, food handling, inventory management, and kitchen operations within the hospitality industry
Strong track record managing food cost and menu costing — you know your numbers as well as your knife skills
Experience scheduling and managing labor costs against sales volume
Strong understanding of food safety protocols including sanitizing procedures and health regulations
Leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and hold high standards of quality and efficiency under pressure
Excellent communication skills for coordinating with staff, vendors, ownership, and guests effectively
