A to Z Theatrical - Wichita (formerly TSI), is a branch of A to Z Theatrical Supply and Service, Inc, which is headquartered in Kansas City, MO. A to Z and TSI have both been in continuous operation for over 60 years. As a service and supply company for the theatrical and events world, we handle a diverse client base and provide assistance with retail purchases, lighting audio and video system rentals or upgrades, custom costume construction and rentals, theatrical drapery construction and installation, theatrical rigging system inspections, repairs, and replacements, and are involved in the renovation and construction of theatrical spaces, primarily in schools, regional theaters, and religious institutions. We're seeking a Theatrical Service and Repair Technician to join our growing team. The Theatrical Service and Repair Technician installs, maintains, and repairs equipment, systems, and machinery by diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and providing customer support and training. Work will primarily happen out of the AtoZ Wichita branch (formerly TSI), with frequent travel to client sites.
REPORTS TO: Branch Manager and works closely with the other branch staff, the Sales Manager, and other departments.
STANDARD HOURS/WEEK: 40 (approximate), typically Monday-Friday during standard business hours; however, some evenings, weekends, and long days will be required to meet client needs and deadlines. Some overtime may be required
CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, non-exempt
TRAVEL: Variable amounts of travel expected, as needed, for client projects. Primarily local travel to event venues and client sites. Overnight travel is not expected to exceed 15%.
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Theatrical Service & Repair Technician installs, maintains, and repairs theatrical equipment like rigging, drapery, lighting, sound, and projection systems, ensuring their safe and efficient operation. Responsibilities include routine maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, conducting repairs on technical components, and keeping accurate records. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical and technical systems, the ability to read technical diagrams, and proficiency with various hand and power tools. The ability to install, set up, and test a wide range of theatrical equipment, including lighting fixtures, sound systems, video projectors, and stage rigging; as well as perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance on all technical equipment is an essential function of this role. The Theatrical Service & Repair Technician assists customers to troubleshoot and repair faulty or broken equipment, replace components and engage with customers and vendors in-person, through email, and over the phone.
Routine functions also include assisting in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and organization of technical storage areas and workspaces, pulling and prepping rental equipment, picking up and dropping off equipment, resolving customer issues, and contributing to the operation and maintenance of technical equipment. The Service & Repair Technician is responsible for ensuring all rental equipment is functioning properly and for maintaining detailed records of equipment inventory, maintenance logs, and repair activities. They may assist in the installation of technical equipment and the setup/striking of equipment for shows and events.
This position is responsible for the administration and onsite supervision of our non-union stagehand division. This includes preparing accurate estimates, invoices, and timesheets, coordinating staffing, and working the calls.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
- Computer literate and comfortable using a computer for various tasks. Preferably proficient in Google Workspace (formerly known as G Suite).
- Experience with and understanding of theatrical lighting, sound, and video systems.
- Ability to perform minor electrical repairs, soldering, and other mechanical tasks.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain records, and keep a workspace organized.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Meticulous eye for detail to ensure thorough inspections, and accurate repairs.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to be clear and concise via phone, email, and in person effectively interact with staff, customers, and other departments.
- Must be comfortable working safely at heights.
- Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation required.
Required Education and Experience
- A minimum of two years of practical technical theatrical repair experience, or a combination of practical theater experience and an associate's degree in technical theatre, theatre production, or a related field provides a deeper understanding of the industry.
- Experience operating and maintaining theatrical systems for lighting, sound, video, and rigging is essential.
- A basic understanding of computers, data entry, and networking helps with modern control systems.
- Expertise in using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and specialized electrical testing equipment.
- Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation required.
- Ability to work in educational or governmental facilities without limitation.
Preferred Education and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in technical theatre, theatre production, or a related field. Formal education with more on-the-job experience may be substituted.
- The ability to set up, install, and troubleshoot advanced technology.
- Extensive knowledge of at least one of the following: stage rigging, theatrical lighting, and/or event A/V needs. Preference may be given to those with theatre tech experience.
- Expertise in routine maintenance and repair of stage equipment.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Ability to work various shifts as needed, including weekends, early mornings, or late evenings.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work at heights on ladders and lifts, and be on your feet for extended periods.
- Must possess a strong work ethic.
- A flexible schedule is often required, as shows typically happen in the evenings and on weekends.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
- Able to work steadily at a computer for long periods of time.
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your hands, arms and legs, and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials for a prolonged period of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment for a theatrical service repair technician is physically demanding, fast-paced, and collaborative, requiring long and irregular hours. The job involves a variety of technical tasks, often in tight spaces and at heights, with exposure to loud noise and atmospheric effects.
