GROUND TECHNICIAN – TREE CARE / LANDSCAPING EXPERIENCE
Full-Time | Year-Round Work | Benefits | Paid Training | Career Advancement
Turn your landscaping or outdoor work experience into a career in professional tree care.
Hansen’s Tree Service & Environmental Resources is hiring Ground Technicians to join our Tree Division.
If you have experience in landscaping, lawn care, grounds maintenance, construction, agriculture, tree work, or other physically demanding outdoor jobs, many of the skills you already have transfer directly to this position.
Previous tree care experience is NOT required. We will train the right person.
This is an entry-level position on a professional tree care crew and the starting point for Hansen’s Tree Division career path. You’ll work alongside experienced Ground Technicians, Tree Technicians, Climbers, and Crew Leaders while learning the skills and safety practices needed to advance in the tree care industry.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
This is a hands-on, physically demanding outdoor job. As a Ground Technician, you will:
- Assist tree crews with pruning and tree removal operations from the ground
- Drag, carry, stack, load, and move brush, limbs, logs, and debris
- Feed brush and limbs into wood chippers after receiving proper training
- Load and unload tools, ropes, equipment, fuel, and jobsite materials
- Set up and organize tools, cones, signs, ropes, barriers, and equipment
- Use rakes, blowers, ropes, tarps, wheelbarrows, and other ground tools
- Support Climbers and Tree Technicians working in trees and aerial lifts
- Maintain safe work areas and stay clear of drop zones and equipment danger zones
- Protect lawns, landscaping, fences, driveways, structures, vehicles, and other customer property
- Perform final jobsite cleanup, including raking, blowing, debris removal, and removal of sawdust and wood chips
- Help keep trucks, trailers, tools, and equipment clean and organized
- Learn proper tree care terminology, equipment use, safety practices, and ground operations
LANDSCAPING EXPERIENCE? YOUR SKILLS TRANSFER.
If you've worked in landscaping or grounds maintenance, you're probably already familiar with many of the things we need from a successful Ground Technician:
- Working outdoors all day in changing weather
- Performing physically demanding work
- Using hand tools and outdoor power equipment
- Moving brush, debris, soil, mulch, materials, and equipment
- Working around trucks, trailers, and machinery
- Protecting lawns, landscaping, structures, and customer property
- Working efficiently as part of a field crew
- Following directions and jobsite safety procedures
- Leaving the property clean and professional when the job is finished
We'll teach you the tree-care-specific skills.
NO TREE EXPERIENCE? THAT'S OKAY.
We aren't looking only for experienced arborists.
We're looking for people who are:
- Reliable – you show up on time and ready to work
- Hardworking – you're comfortable with a physically demanding workday
- Safety-minded – you pay attention to what's happening around you
- Coachable – you listen, ask questions, and learn from experienced crew members
- Team-oriented – you understand that everyone on the crew depends on one another
- Professional – you respect customers, coworkers, equipment, and customer property
- Interested in learning – you want to develop skills instead of staying in the same entry-level job forever
If that describes you, we can teach you tree care.

As you develop, training may include:
- Tree care and jobsite safety
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)

THIS ISN'T JUST A LABOR JOB
Ground Technician is the starting point of Hansen’s Tree Division career ladder.
Employees who demonstrate reliability, safety, physical capability, teamwork, and the ability to learn can progress through increasingly skilled positions:
Ground Technician → Ground Technician II → Tree Technician → Climber → Crew Leader
That means an employee can start with no professional tree care experience and develop the skills needed for equipment operation, chainsaw work, rigging, aerial tree work, climbing, and eventually crew leadership.
