Position Summary
The Cashier / Sales Associate is responsible for providing outstanding customer service, accurately operating the cash register, maintaining store cleanliness and merchandising standards, and supporting all foodservice and retail operations. This position plays a key role in creating a positive customer experience and ensuring the store operates efficiently and safely.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Customer Service
- Greet every customer promptly and professionally.
- Provide friendly, courteous, and efficient service.
- Assist customers with questions, purchases, and product locations.
- Promote company loyalty programs, promotions, and special offers.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and communicate issues to management.
Cash Handling & Sales
- Operate cash registers, lottery terminals, and payment systems accurately.
- Process cash, credit card, debit card, and mobile transactions.
- Balance cash drawer and follow company cash-handling procedures.
- Verify identification for age-restricted purchases in accordance with company policy and applicable laws.
- Actively suggest add-on sales and promotional items.
Food & Beverage Service
- Maintain coffee, fountain drink, and hot food stations.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and rotation procedures.
- Monitor product freshness and expiration dates.
- Prepare and stock grab-and-go items as assigned.
- Maintain clean and attractive food displays.
Merchandising & Inventory
- Stock shelves, coolers, and displays.
- Face merchandise and maintain store presentation standards.
- Rotate inventory using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
- Report out-of-stock items and inventory concerns to management.
- Assist with receiving and putting away deliveries.
Store Maintenance & Safety
- Keep the sales floor, restrooms, parking lot, and foodservice areas clean and organized.
- Clean spills immediately and maintain a safe environment.
- Follow all company safety, security, and loss prevention procedures.
- Assist with daily cleaning and sanitation tasks.
- Report maintenance concerns or safety hazards promptly.
Teamwork
- Work cooperatively with fellow employees and management.
- Assist with training new team members when assigned.
- Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to serving customers and coworkers.
Qualifications Required
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Basic math and cash-handling abilities.
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred
- Previous retail, convenience store, foodservice, or customer service experience.
- Knowledge of tobacco, lottery, alcohol, and fuel sales procedures.
- Experience with cash registers and POS systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and stocking merchandise.
- Ability to work in coolers, freezers, and outdoor conditions as needed.
