Job Family Description
Communications personnel develop, plan, design, maintain and implement policies and programs that inform and enhance relationships with customers, local and regional communities, the general public, government and regulatory authorities, employees, and other interested stakeholders. They deliver communications through various media formats to provide accurate and timely information to internal and external audiences. They coordinate dissemination of company communications with news or trade media contacts, through special events and tours, public speaking, or other means to reach defined audiences and meet specific program objectives.
Corporate Communications is responsible for all public affairs and issues communications, emergency response and incidents communications, video, photography and animation media services, branding and logos, internal and external websites, education outreach, protocol and event planning execution, government and congressional relations, community relations, stakeholder engagement and company philanthropy.
Discipline Description
Protocol and Special Events personnel plan and host strategic visits, meetings, and events for internal and external stakeholders, including high-level dignitaries, foreign governments, stakeholders, academic personnel, industry personnel, employees, and members of the public. They ensure that events run smoothly, meet the objectives of stakeholders, and leave a positive impression on attendees.
Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:
The SRTE Protocol Officer is responsible for managing, coordinating, and executing all protocol-related activities supporting the Savannah River Tritium Enterprise (SRTE). This role ensures the highest standards of professionalism and protocol are maintained during official visits and interactions with internal and external stakeholders, including government officials, dignitaries, and senior leadership. The Protocol Officer serves as the primary point of contact for all protocol matters, ensuring compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) and SRTE guidelines.
Key responsibilities include:
- planning, coordinating, and executing official visits, and ceremonies for SRTE, including logistics, scheduling, and on-site support. Serve as the primary SRTE liaison for visitors.
- developing and maintaining protocols and procedures that ensure compliance with DOE, NNSA, and site-specific requirements.
- prepare briefing materials, itineraries, and event documentation for senior leadership and visitors.
- coordinate with security, facilities, and support staff to ensure all logistical and security requirements are met.
- provide guidance and training to staff regarding protocol standards, etiquette, and best practices.
- communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, government officials, and visiting dignitaries.
- maintain records of official visits, events, and correspondence.
- respond to inquiries and resolve issues related to protocol and event coordination.
- represent SRTE with the highest degree of professionalism and discretion.
- understanding of Site's organizational structure and missions is critical, as is an understanding of regulatory framework governing site operations.
Applicants must be able to perform physical tasks, including lifting and transporting items as needed for events and meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field
- Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Q Clearance.

Knowledge of SRTE Operations: Familiarity with the mission, structure, and operational procedures of the Savannah River Tritium Enterprise or similar nuclear/energy organizations.
Attention to Detail: Exceptional organizational and administrative skills with a strong attention to detail in scheduling, logistics, and documentation.
Security Awareness: Understanding of security protocols and requirements for handling sensitive information and coordinating secure visits.

Security Clearance Information
SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
