Tax Manager

Tax Manager

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, planning and advisory services for a diverse portfolio of clients including high-net-worth individuals, trusts and estates, partnerships, corporations and nonprofit entities. The Tax Manager will oversee preparation and review of federal, state and international tax returns, manage tax provision and research, support M&A and due diligence engagements, and serve as a client-facing technical resource. This role requires strong technical knowledge across individual, corporate and pass-through taxation, excellent supervisory and communication skills, and proficiency with tax software and data tools.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the preparation, review and timely filing of federal, state and local tax returns for individuals (1040), trusts and estates (1041, 706, 709), partnerships (1065), S corporations (1120S) and C corporations (1120).
Provide technical tax planning and compliance guidance for highnetworth individuals (HNW/HNWI), fiduciaries and family offices, including gift and estate tax planning and trust administration support.
Oversee partnership and passthrough tax engagements, including partnership allocations, K-1 preparation, partnership tax research and nexus/apportionment analysis.
Lead tax provision (ASC 740) calculations and tax accounting for GAAP/IFRS, and coordinate tax accounting with finance and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle).
Support M&A tax structuring and due diligence, perform transaction tax analysis and identify tax risks and opportunities.
Deliver state & local tax (SALT) planning, sales & use tax analysis, payroll & withholding tax guidance, and international tax support including transfer pricing, VAT/GST and BEPS/treaty analysis as needed.
Perform advanced tax research, prepare memos and present technical positions to clients and internal stakeholders; manage tax controversy and audit support when required.
Supervise, mentor and review work of senior staff and tax preparers; manage workflow, delegate tasks and ensure quality control and adherence to firm policies.
Leverage tax software and data tools (ONESOURCE, CCH, Vertex, CorpTax, Oracle) and advanced analytics (Advanced Excel & VBA, Alteryx/Power Query, SQL) to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Develop and maintain strong client relationships; communicate complex tax matters clearly and proactively to clients and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Taxation or related field required; JD or LLM in Tax, or Masters in Taxation preferred.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required; EA or other professional credentials (e.g., Advanced Tax Certification) strongly preferred.
Minimum 610 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or industry, including experience managing tax engagements and supervising staff.
Demonstrated expertise with individual, fiduciary, partnership, SCorp and CCorp tax compliance and planning (1040, 1120S, 1120, 1065, 709, 1041, 706).
Experience with highnetworth clients, trusts & estates, gift & estate tax planning, and family office matters preferred.
Proven knowledge of tax provision (ASC 740), SALT, international tax (transfer pricing, VAT/GST, treaty analysis), R&D credits, M&A tax and due diligence.
Strong technical research skills and experience drafting technical memos and client communications; experience with tax controversy and audit support a plus.
Handson experience with tax and accounting software such as ONESOURCE, CCH Axcess, Vertex, CorpTax, and ERP systems (Oracle, SAP); advanced Excel (VBA), Alteryx/Power Query and SQL skills preferred.
Excellent leadership, project management and client service skills; ability to prioritize, work independently and manage multiple engagements under tight deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and professional presentation abilities; attention to detail and commitment to quality and ethical standards.
