Definition:
Perform a wide variety of technical tasks in the testing, installation, and troubleshooting of desktop computing devices and software, communications equipment, and network components. Provides second-level help desk customer service.
Principal Duties:
- Prepare and determine hardware and software requirements for desktop computing devices. Install and maintain the same. Install operating systems and configure device software.
- Troubleshoot problems on networked desktop computing devices provided by the City. Maintain Help Desk ticket entry and knowledge base.
- Assist other technical staff with testing and installation of a wide variety of systems.
- Assist users in determining appropriate types of hardware components.
- Research hardware components, gather configuration information, and prepare quotes and equipment orders.
- Assist in developing and modifying internal Enterprise Technology Services procedures relating to desktop computing devices and software installation.
- Support and assist users with hardware and software problems and questions through the Help Desk. Communicate with service vendors as to the nature of the problem and diagnostic results.
- Prepare end user training documentation and provide assistance in use of desktop computing devices, network software, E-mail, and connectivity products.
- Perform basic network administration that includes setting up new users, troubleshooting log-in issues, and configuring and troubleshooting network printers and print servers.
- Perform special projects and assignments as assigned.
- Achieve and maintain a Dell TechDirect Certification
- Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.
Working Environment:
Work is performed in a standard office environment. Work requires problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Work involves frequent reading, reasoning, customer contact, multiple concurrent tasks, constant interruptions, heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds. or more), pulling, pushing, reaching, walking, standing, bending/stooping. Work involves occasional sitting, climbing, twisting, kneeling, and squatting. Requires frequent travel to other departments.
Qualifications:
Education and experience equivalent to an Associate Degree from an accredited college with major course work in computer science or a closely related field and at least one year of experience with MS Windows compatible hardware and software, Microsoft Office programs. Experience with, Microsoft Active Directory and Network knowledge is highly desirable. Experience supporting mobile devices, printers and other peripherals. Valid Colorado Driver's License required.
