Full Job Description

Every clinic needs somebody who actually keeps the place running. Somebody to coordinate the schedule, ensure that the stuff that needs to get done has somebody doing it, and make continuous improvements to how those things are done so that it just keeps getting smoother.

Usually that person has no real authority, a title that undersells them, and a regional manager somewhere who's never run a fecal in their life.

If that's you, we'd like to give you the actual job.

Muir Field Pet Clinic has served its Madison neighborhood for over twenty years. When its founding veterinarian retired, the clinic passed to Precision Veterinary — an independent practice that's been a few miles away for eight years. We're rebuilding the Muir Field team around people who take ownership, and the clinic manager is the center of that: the person who runs the place day to day so the veterinarian can practice medicine.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You've worked in veterinary medicine — as a technician, an assistant, a lead CSR, a practice manager, or some combination — long enough that nothing about a clinic day scares you. You're good with people on the worst pet day of their lives, and just as good with the quiet operational stuff nobody sees: schedules, inventory, records, deposits. You'd rather own the whole outcome than a narrow lane, and you're the kind of person who fixes a problem before anyone else has noticed it exists and then prevents it from happening again.

WHAT THIS ROLE ACTUALLY IS

- You run the clinic's operations. Scheduling, front desk and client communication, medical records (ezyVet), inventory and supplier ordering, end-of-day close, and the physical facility. If it isn't medicine, you're in control.

- You work the floor, not just the desk. Animal handling and restraint, sample collection, in-house labs, filling prescriptions under the veterinarian's direction, keeping appointments flowing. This is a working manager role — some days you're the front desk AND the tech.

- You build as we grow. The on-site team today is small — you, the doctor, and a float tech. The clinic is designed for two doctors, and we're remodeling around that. As the caseload grows, you'll help hire and shape the support team.

- You report to the owner, not a chain of command. The operations principal lives behind the clinic and the Medical Director is at the main clinic two miles away; decisions get made in texts, not quarters. The main clinic's team of three DVMs and ten support staff is there for backup, coverage, and someone to call.

The honest part: this clinic is ramping back up after an ownership transition. You'd be building, not maintaining. Current volume is low enough that it's a bit chaotic to manage the schedule, a lot of process type things just don't have the volume to run smoothly yet, and you'll have more autonomy than any corporate practice would ever give you. That trade is the job.

We're privately owned and operated, and we run this practice on a simple idea: the proceeds go toward making a difference. Over eight years, Precision Veterinary has built relationships with more than 150 area rescues and shelters and provided the care behind 60,000+ adoptions, covering millions in medical costs along the way. The people who own this practice are the people who work in it — and they have no interest in leaving, selling, or buying a boat. Muir Field will remain a neighborhood vet clinic for the rest of its patients' lives.

THE SCHEDULE

Monday–Friday, 8:30–6:00. No weekends, no on-call, no overnight anything. When you need time off, we work out coverage like adults.

COMPENSATION

- $60,000–$72,000 base salary, depending on experience — the top of the band is for a CVT or CVPM who's done this before.

- Quarterly performance bonus (up to ~$6,000/year at plan) tied to goals you'll help set — because if the clinic runs better, you should share in it.

- Health insurance (GHC), with dental and vision available.

- Flexible PTO — we don't nickel-and-dime days off.

- Professional development budget — including the CVPM path if you want the credential.

- Veterinary care for your own pets at cost (and family pets).

- Relocation help if you're coming from out of the area.

- Growth built in: the clinic is designed for two doctors. As it grows, the role — and the comp — grows with it. We would also like to open more clinics and need someone to help oversee the project. If that sounds appealing to you, talk to George about it. He would love to be fired.
