Mill Supervisor
Overview:
Manage and develop direct reports in order to establish and maintain acceptable standards of performance in the key areas of: safety, employee relations, quality, sanitation/product protection, costs, and production. Lead the milling operations and maintenance of production equipment. This position will report to the Process Improvement/Mill Manager.
Essential Functions:
- Executes good manufacturing practices while promoting a safe working environment and sanitary production techniques through the supervision of all production phases. Conducts monthly/annual training to comply with regulatory needs.
- Manages and reconciles daily inventory and production posting.
- Practices basic principles of good people management to include but not limited to hiring and training of new hourly personnel.
- Complies with high customer service requirements by projecting the workload of equipment and resources. Responds and takes corrective action related to customer complaints.
- Sets priorities for production schedules based upon new product introduction, equipment efficiency, and materials supply. Interacts with Maintenance on breakdowns, PM’s and vibration analysis.
- Stays up to date and implements the latest and most cost-effective technologies to support the feasibility of production. Continually identifies and implements short- and long-term cost savings opportunities that do not compromise quality.
- Develops and implements productivity and process improvements. May also work on other special projects such as process audits, etc. Facilitates good communication by regularly informing management of significant operational issues, changes and recommendations.
- Participates in food safety inspections. Interacts with regulatory agencies, external auditors and schedules inspections.
- Develops manpower requirements based upon production guidelines. Process and approve payroll.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
- Comply and maintain all Food Safety programs.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Education and Experience: Four-year college degree such as management, biology, chemistry or agriculture is preferred or equivalent experience resulting in broad knowledge of a field related to milling.
Communication skills: Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to question in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Mathematical skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers of common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.
Critical thinking skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
Supervision received: Under direction where a definite objective is set up and the employee plans and arranges own work, referring only unusual cases to supervisor.
Planning: Responsibility for general assignments in planning, time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work, may also occasionally assist in
Use of machines, equipment and/or computers: Regular use of complex machines and equipment (desktop/laptop computer and software, road and production machines and equipment, etc.)
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, SDS, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals, must have good grammar and ability to write routine reports.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to calculate percentages and volume.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral or diagram form, ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have, or have the ability to obtain a forklift operator's license. Current valid California Driver’s License required. Must be insurable and have clean Motor Vehicle Report. Certificate of insurance required when using personal vehicle for company business.
Schedule: Full-time position, typically 40 hours a week, but on occasion additional hours may be required. Variable shift assignments as needed to fulfill the facility’s production requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Work is performed in a high dust environment. Workers must often work in tight, confined claustrophobic spaces. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and heat.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
