Full Job Description

Job Summary:

The primary duty of this position is to manage Route Service Representatives. This position supervises about 40 employees. This position interviews, hires, schedules, manages, assigns day-to-day work, evaluates performance, disciplines, terminates (if necessary), and otherwise is responsible for managing the Route Service Representatives. Through management of Route Service Representatives, the Route Supervisor builds and maintains customer relationships, resolves problems, and maintains the fleet to ensure excellent customer service.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Effective at managing subordinate employees and evaluating their performance.
Effective at interviewing of candidates for Route Service Representative positions
Communicate with employees on performance and direction of tasks to meet goals.
Effective at training and leading teams of employees to achieve goals.
Maintain constant contact with Route Service Representatives (RSRs), operators , warehouse center and office management staff, external service providers and customers.
Manage, train and coordinate Route Service Representatives to meet and exceed operating and customer satisfaction objectives, often including daily meetings and monthly route observations.
Monitor Route Service Representative performance by conducting daily one-on-one meetings and monthly route observations.
Develop and optimize route structure to maximize customer service and control distribution expense as a percentage of revenue, including daily review of DOT trip sheets, timecards, comparison to GPS report, and rearranging stops among RSRs as needed to meet budget expectations.
Analyze data to evaluate and coach team members towards performance improvement in areas including product penetration, service commitments and productivity.
Structure documentation of, delivery of, and receipt of materials
Assist with measurement and documentation of customer satisfaction issues related to delivery of materials, including customer visitation.
Manage Inventory Levels at each designated account.
Assist with compliance with company and insurance carrier policies and directives, including assisting with monthly training and Safety In-Services.
Assist with compliance with Federal and State DOT regulations, including monitoring and managing issues related to Drivers Licenses and medical cards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The primary duty of this position is management. This position oversees the activities of Route Service Representatives, and serves a critical role in their hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluation and management, task assignment, discipline, and if necessary, recommending and communicating their termination. Route Supervisors should be prepared to manage an entire team of Route Service Representatives (and may also supervise Operators and Loaders) that reports directly to them.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate degree, with college courses in business and transportation/distribution, or equivalent experience in the industry making up for the lack of a degree.
2-5 years’ experience in a sales and customer service environment.
Knowledge of transportation/distribution, including regulatory requirements relating to drivers and vehicles.
Good human relations skills to work with subordinates, managers, sales personnel, and customers.
Exceptional communication, presentation, and training skills
Proficient in performance measurement and goal attainment.
Self-reliant and motivated professional, with good follow-through capabilities.
Proficient in MS Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

Supervisory experience.
Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Bilingual ( English & Spanish)

Travel Required:

The Route Supervisor works in an office environment within the facility, with some auto travel to customer locations. Travel is expected to take up 10% of work time, typically requiring riding with Route Service Representatives to evaluate work practices, vehicle performance, and meeting with customers. Employees are responsible for creating and submitting expense reports each week for expenditures incurred during travel.

Physical Requirements:

This position works predominantly within an office environment. The position requires considerable sitting, standing, and walking. Physical demands can involve lifting and handling inventory.

Work Environment:

This position exists primarily within the facility environment, with periodic office work. The facility environment can be loud, has wet areas, chemicals, and other hazards. The position requires the ability to communicate in person, telephonically and via email.
