Job Summary:

If you’re an experienced employment attorney who still loves analyzing cases but is ready to leave the litigation grind behind, this role may be for you.

No caseload. No billable hours. No court deadlines. No discovery disputes. Instead, you’ll use your legal experience to evaluate prospective employment matters and decide which cases Blackstone takes.

As an Intake Vetting Attorney, you’ll review facts gathered by our Intake Specialists, identify viable claims, assess strengths and risks, speak with prospective clients when needed, and determine whether to sign, refer, decline, or escalate a case. This is a fast paced, high volume role that requires strong employment law instincts, sound judgment, and the ability to make defensible decisions quickly, even with incomplete information.

We’re looking for an experienced employment attorney who has done the litigation work and is intentionally ready to use that experience differently. This is a specialized attorney role, not a stepping stone to a litigation team.

Key Responsibilities:

Review and independently evaluate employment matters submitted by Intake Specialists to determine the appropriate disposition, including sign-up, referral, decline, or hold.
Analyze claims across the firm's core practice areas, including wage and hour, FEHA discrimination and harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, disability and pregnancy accommodations, and PAGA/class actions.
Contact prospective clients as needed to clarify facts, assess credibility, and obtain information necessary to make well-reasoned legal decisions.
Exercise independent legal judgment while identifying statute-sensitive matters, documenting case evaluations in Lead Docket, and escalating close or complex decisions when appropriate.
Meet daily and weekly case review goals consistent with the firm's speed-to-lead standards and proactively communicate capacity concerns.
Leverage technology tools to improve the speed, consistency, and quality of case evaluations.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of intake processes, vetting standards, and operational efficiencies as the department grows.

Qualifications:

J.D. from an accredited law school and active California Bar membership.
5+ years of litigating employment matters, plaintiff-side litigation preferred.
Strong knowledge of California employment law, including FEHA, wage and hour laws, PAGA, wrongful termination, retaliation, disability accommodation, leave laws, and related workplace claims.
The ability to make sound, defensible decisions quickly with incomplete information, while knowing when to escalate for additional guidance.
Strong issue-spotting, analytical, and critical thinking skills with excellent judgment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build rapport with prospective clients while obtaining key facts.
Ability to manage a high-volume review queue while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and responsiveness.
Experience using case management systems such as Lead Docket, Filevine, Litify, or similar platforms is preferred.
