Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Plastics Engineer with 2–5 years of injection molding experience to join our engineering team. This is a true multi-hat role in a small, fast-moving precision molding operation: you will own molding processes from mold trial through production, troubleshoot tooling, support new product launches, and work directly with toolmakers, operators, quality, and customers. The right candidate is as comfortable at the press making adjustments as they are analyzing data at a desk — and is energized by variety rather than a narrowly defined role in a face paced environment.

Duties

Process Engineering
Develop, document, and optimize injection molding processes for engineering-grade resins (PEEK, Ultem, LCP, PPS, nylons, and similar high-performance materials).
Lead mold trials, first-article runs, and process validation for new tools and part revisions using scientific/decoupled molding principles.
Establish and maintain setup sheets, process windows, and machine parameters across the press fleet.
Troubleshoot molding defects (short shots, flash, warp, voids, dimensional drift) and drive root-cause corrective action on the floor in real time.
Reduce cycle times, scrap, and downtime through data-driven continuous improvement.
Tooling
Evaluate new mold designs for manufacturability, venting, gating, cooling, and ejection — and provide feedback to tooling partners before steel is cut.
Diagnose tooling issues (wear, damage, flash conditions, hot runner problems) and coordinate repairs, preventive maintenance, and engineering changes with toolmakers.
Manage mold qualification, revision control, and tooling documentation.
Cross-Functional (the "multiple hats")
Support quoting and design-for-manufacturability reviews with customers and sales.
Assist quality with capability studies, inspection questions, and customer corrective actions as needed.
Train and coach process technicians and operators on molding fundamentals and best practices.
Pitch in wherever the day requires — material trials, secondary operations, automation, or facility improvements.
