The Role
We are looking for a dependable, skilled Welder / Metal Fabricator to join our production team in Tumwater, Washington.
This is a hands-on fabrication role focused primarily on welding and assembling custom metal components for architectural signage, public art, interpretive panels, and other fabricated products.
This is not a heavy-equipment repair, field welding, or machinery maintenance position. Most of the work involves welding corners and seams on fabricated sheet-metal pans, building steel and aluminum frames, fitting components, and completing other light-to-medium fabrication work in our shop.
Every project is different. We are looking for someone who takes pride in clean, accurate work and can become a dependable member of a small production team.
What You’ll Do
- Weld corners and seams on fabricated sheet-metal pans
- Fabricate steel and aluminum frames from shop drawings and dimensions
- Measure, cut, fit, clamp, and square components prior to welding
- Perform MIG and/or TIG welding depending on the project
- Grind, clean, and finish welds where appearance or fit is important
- Drill holes and prepare mounting points and hardware locations
- Check completed assemblies for dimensions, squareness, fit, and overall quality
- Assist with other metal fabrication and production work as needed
- Maintain welding equipment and fabrication tools
- Keep the fabrication area clean, organized, and safe
- Communicate proactively when drawings, dimensions, materials, or instructions are unclear
- Help identify ways to reduce rework, improve quality, and make fabrication more efficient
What Success Looks Like
In your first 30 days, success means learning our products, fabrication standards, equipment, safety procedures, and expectations while demonstrating reliability and consistent workmanship.
Over time, success means you can take a shop drawing or set of dimensions, plan the fabrication process, build the required assembly accurately, and complete your work with minimal oversight.
We want someone the production team can rely on to produce clean, square, properly fitting fabricated components that are ready for the next stage of production.
What We’re Looking For
Unlike some of our general production positions, prior welding experience is required for this role.
Formal welding certifications are not required. We care more about whether you can consistently produce clean, accurate work.
Strong candidates will have:
- Prior MIG and/or TIG welding experience
- Experience with metal fabrication, fitting, and assembly
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately
- Ability to work from basic shop drawings and dimensions
- Ability to cut, fit, clamp, and square fabricated assemblies
- Understanding of basic welding techniques and heat distortion
- Good attention to weld appearance and finish quality
- Comfort using grinders, drills, saws, clamps, and common fabrication tools
- Strong attention to detail
- Good safety habits
- Reliability and consistent attendance
- Ability to work independently once a project is explained
- Willingness to ask questions when something does not look right
- A team-oriented attitude
Helpful experience includes:
- Sheet-metal fabrication
- Steel frame fabrication
- Aluminum fabrication
- Architectural or ornamental metalwork
- Sign fabrication
- Public art fabrication
- Custom manufacturing
- Grinding and cosmetic weld finishing
- Working from shop drawings
Candidates may be asked to complete a short hands-on welding and fabrication test as part of the interview process.
Physical Requirements
This is an active shop role. Candidates must be able to:
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Stand, bend, reach, and move throughout the workday
- Safely handle metal components and fabrication materials
- Work safely around welding equipment, grinders, saws, drills, and other production equipment
- Follow PPE and shop safety procedures at all times

Compensation & Benefits
- $20–$30 per hour, depending on experience and fabrication ability
