Definition:
The Speech Pathologist will evaluate, diagnose, and treat students with speech or language disorders, formulate individualized treatment programs, keep appropriate records, and inform faculty and parents about students' progress. Works under immediate supervision of the Vice President of Operations at Beacon Day School. An employee of this classification meets guidelines developed by the American Speech–Language-Hearing Association for Speech-Language Pathologist, as well as California State requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential duties and responsibilities of this class include but are not limited to:
- Assesses the needs of pupils with speech or language disorders and matches their needs with programs available through the educational system. Meets with students regularly according to treatment program schedule, evaluates, and maintains records of students' progress.
- Reports progress to faculty members and meets with them on a regular basis to discuss their evaluations of students' skills as demonstrated in class performance and social interaction with other students.
- Reports progress to parents and meets with them regularly. Suggests activities parents can do with their child to assist and supplement the student's speech therapy program. Attempts to add to their understanding of the program and answers questions and addresses concerns they may have about it.
- Repeats evaluations on a regular basis to measure progress according to professional guidelines.
- Talks with students to determine their feelings about the program and their progress or any frustrations they may feel about the therapy.
- Keeps current with professional literature and attends seminars on a regular basis to maintain and update professional skills.
- Accurately collects and records observational and objective data per department protocols;
- Prepares therapy materials and/or equipment for use in therapy activities;
- Works with augmentative communication devices and equipment;
- Maintains schedule, student charts/records, and graphs or otherwise displays student performance data per department protocols.
- Performs related duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skills
- Hearing ability sufficient to evaluate student's speech.
- Proper use of and care for the materials, supplies and equipment employed in performing duties and responsibilities;
- Efficient use of computers and internet resources in the completion of assigned duties;
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with Beacon Day School Staff;
- Ability to plan accordingly and meet deadlines;
- Ability to maintain great sense of confidentiality;
- Ability to work collaboratively and professionally;

- Ability to work in an office/educational setting environment on a daily, full-time basis;

Minimum Qualifications:
- SLP certification is required;
- Master's degree in speech pathology required;
- Minimum of two years of experience working in the speech pathology field preferred;
- Experience working with Children with Autism and related disorders.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed under normal office or classroom conditions, but there are some minimal environmental risks or disagreeable conditions associated with the work.
Employees must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of a position with or without reasonable accommodation and without being a danger to themselves or others. Must meet all Pro-ACT standards and safety requirements (light duty is not available).

Pay: $75,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
