The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Coordinator for the Max Berger ‘71 Public Interest/Public Service (Berger) Fellows Program has primary responsibility for supporting the Berger Fellows Program within the Office of Public Interest/Public Service Law and Careers. In collaboration with the Director of the Berger Fellows Program, the incumbent will manage the administration, execution, and logistics for Berger Fellows programming and events, coordinate a variety of Berger Fellows projects and initiatives, manage the admissions phase of the program, and ensure compliance with program requirements. The incumbent is an important point of access for Berger Fellows, the Law School community, and outside organizations that seek information about these matters.

Responsibilities

1. Provide support for the Berger Fellows program, including coordinating projects and initiatives, coordinating the admissions process annually, ensuring compliance with program requirements, and following up regularly with the Berger Fellows. Manage the onboarding and offboarding of Fellows into and out of the program as well as the transition of graduates to alumni of the Program.

2. Schedule, publicize, oversee the logistics and follow-up for Berger Fellows events and programs, including booking rooms, ordering catering and coordinating A/V needs. Provide in-person support for events which includes staying for the duration of an event and wrapping up events. Be able to independently put on programs as needed. Collaborate with the Director of the Berger Fellows Program and Dean for Public Interest/Public Service Law and Careers (PI/PS Dean), as needed, to identify additional programming needs based on student and other stakeholder feedback.

3. Assist with writing, editing, publication and distribution of reports, web content, newsletters, and other materials for the Berger Fellows program, including semesterly program calendars. Design and distribute surveys to collect student feedback bi-annually. Analyze feedback in order to propose solutions and new ideas to the Director of the program.

4. Design and implement creative and efficient workflows to improve efficiencies in the administration of the Berger Fellows programs in collaboration with the Director of the Fellows Program and the Assistant Director of Operations.

5. Serve as the point of contact regarding Berger Fellows program activities, updates, and opportunities both internally with Columbia-wide staff, donors, advisory groups, and students and externally with vendors.

6. Help administer the budget of the Berger Fellows program, including the processing of Berger Fellows’ stipends in accordance with the Law School’s Business Office policies. Maintain responsibility for the Program’s P card and any transactions that require that card. Handle all invoices and reimbursements related to the Program

7. Provide additional support for PI/PS Office including:

a. Liaise with Columbia Law School’s broad public interest alumni network, including maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of alumni for the PI/PS Alumni List, ensuring that Berger Fellows alumni are incorporated into this list, drafting content for periodic alumni newsletters, and managing outreach for the bi-annual PI/PS employer breakfast.

b. Managing correspondence, invitations, and updating of web content and written materials for the Public Interest/Public Service Council.

c. Coordinate the Greene Public Service Scholarship/Public Interest Fellowship admissions process annually in collaboration with the Office of Admissions and Director of the Berger Fellows Program.

d. Perform administrative tasks, including processing of expense and travel reports in Concur, purchasing card expenses and invoices, booking travel, and managing contacts.

8. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned and requested.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or its equivalent. College degree strongly preferred. Minimum of three years of related experience, preferably as a program coordinator, administrative assistant, or office manager with responsibility for public interest, not-for-profit or educationally related programs, or the equivalent combination of education and experience required. Outstanding data management, administrative, organizational, secretarial and interpersonal skills required. Excellent computer skills and experience including word processing, desktop publishing programs, Excel and computer database management required. Familiarity with Google Workspace/G suite strongly preferred. Must be willing to learn and implement new technologies to enhance task performance. Excellent English oral and written communication skills required. Demonstrated interest and participation in public interest or justice-oriented issues and activities is desirable. Ability to initiate and follow-through with minimal supervision as well as meet deadlines, work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, be part of a collegial team and balance competing assignments necessary. Must have good judgment and be able to maintain confidentiality. Availability for some evening and weekend work required. Must be able to work with diverse constituencies and support an inclusive work environment.
