DESCRIPTION
The Sourcing Director is responsible for all phases of sourcing of pigments/additives, logistics & indirect spend categories. Creates competitive environments, creatively negotiates, and generates positive outcomes to assure seamless availability of all products to support the company objectives.
KEY DUTIES
1. NEGOTIATING: Responsible for negotiations for best possible cost service guarantee that develop "win-win" strategies which achieve & maintain sustainable relationships all suppliers and freight vendors. Negotiates Pigments & Additives along with Freight costs. Works with suppliers on cost down opportunities and continuous improvement projects.
2. SELECTION & EVALUATION: Full market understanding of assigned categories. Brings new suppliers/vendors to the company that would generate lower total cost or new technology. This includes non-traditional and overseas suppliers. Evaluates supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using industry cost models. Develops a supplier management program with key suppliers including metrics, performance goals and improvement initiatives.
3. PERFORMANCE METRICS: Owns sourcing of allotted raw material & logistics categories. Generates cost savings and working capital improvements (as assigned). Working with site buyers to drive raw material inventories down and implement consignment, where feasible. Provide monthly feedback to key internal stakeholders on raw material cost trends (historical and forecasted) and supplier and market changes. Perform purchase audits for materials and all logistics as needed.
4. CONTRACTS: Implements supplier agreements/contracts when beneficial by working with cross-functional stakeholders to reach agreement on contract terms and conditions. Establishes policies and ensures compliance within the department.
5. MARKET TRENDS: Researches and anticipates shifts in Logistics as well as pigments. Analyzes industry trends and evolving technology to proactively identify supply base issues to minimize risk, protect continuity of supply, and utilize emerging opportunities.
6. BUSINESS ASPECTS: . Actively participates in cross function collaboration and priority alignment for new supplier/vendor approvals, new product development, etc. Participates in establishing short-term and long range planning and budget development of the company to support strategic business goals. Continuously improve productivity and efficiency of processes throughout the operational organization.
7. SUPPLIER RELATIONSHIPS: Maintains and develops supplier/vendor relationships (trade shows, supplier meetings, conferences, etc.)
8. MANAGE 3PL/4PL RELATIONSHIPS: Foster strong relationships with our defined 3PL and 4PL logistic partner and collaborate closely with site shipping to optimize logistics operations and ensure efficiency. Define critical KPI’s for the 3PL/4PL partner and for the business review with a regular cadence ensuring we hit performance targets and implement corrective actions to close any gaps to plan. Identify opportunities to optimize the logistics cost structure vendor engagement project management and collaboration with partner teams on system improvements.
9. TEAM LEADERSHIP: . Manage a team of two direct reports, overseeing their day-to-day operations and project execution. Creating growth plans, providing continuous feedback, and identifying training opportunities.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
- Bachelor's degree (engineering, logistics or supply chain) strongly preferred with 7-10 years purchasing/strategic sourcing/supply chain and Logistics experience in the Plastics Industry or chemical industries.
- Supply Chain Management Certification (ISM or APICS) is a plus.
- Ability to manage projects and establish clear goals and accountabilities to ensure successful delivery (on time, within budget, meeting agreed upon success criteria). Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects as well as strong follow through skills.
- Must have a strategic mindset robust negotiation skills for vendors and suppliers.
- Strong independent problem solving skills required. Must be able to influence and drive change for both Pigments and Logistics.
- Ability to work well with others independently and collaboratively in fast paced, dynamic environment. Must be a self-starter and self-motivated.
- Business Acumen Exhibit a deep understanding of business operations and strategy. Makes informed decisions that align with organizational goals and is able to drive business results by making data driven decisions and taking action to improve performance
- Advanced systems skills and working knowledge of MS Office, with advanced Excel knowledge. Must have excellent presentation, communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed (up to 20%).
