# Data Scientist – Lead Data & Enrichment

## About Penguin Leads

Penguin Leads is building a better lead-generation engine for high-volume sales organizations. Our platform combines lead sourcing, data enrichment, dialing technology, and performance analytics to help sales teams spend less time chasing bad information and more time speaking with real, qualified prospects.

We are looking for a data scientist who is highly analytical, resourceful, and obsessive about data quality. This person will own the process of sourcing, validating, enriching, and improving lead data across the Penguin Leads platform.

## Role Overview

The Data Scientist – Lead Data & Enrichment will be responsible for finding, evaluating, cleaning, enriching, and maintaining consumer and business data used within Penguin Leads.

This role is not just about building models. You will directly improve the quality of leads our customers receive by identifying reliable data sources, validating records, enriching contact information, detecting duplicates, measuring deliverability and contact rates, and continuously improving the accuracy of our datasets.

The ideal candidate understands that better data means more conversations, more appointments, and more sales.

## Key Responsibilities

* Source and evaluate lead-data providers, public datasets, partner feeds, APIs, and alternative data sources.

* Build systems to validate phone numbers, emails, addresses, names, age ranges, ownership information, and other relevant lead attributes.

* Enrich lead records using third-party data sources, APIs, identity resolution tools, and internal datasets.

* Create scoring models that help determine lead quality, likelihood of contact, likelihood of conversion, and expected value.

* Identify duplicate, outdated, fraudulent, disconnected, invalid, or low-quality records before they reach customers.

* Monitor phone-number validity, carrier type, line type, deliverability, contact rates, opt-out rates, and conversion performance.

* Develop data-quality rules, automated checks, anomaly detection, and reporting dashboards.

* Work closely with product, engineering, sales, compliance, and operations teams to improve lead quality and lead-routing logic.

* Analyze campaign outcomes to determine which data sources, attributes, geographies, demographics, and lead profiles perform best.

* Build feedback loops that use sales outcomes, dispositions, appointments, and conversions to improve future lead sourcing and scoring.

* Help ensure data practices align with TCPA, DNC, consent, privacy, and applicable data-use requirements.

* Maintain clear documentation of data sources, enrichment logic, confidence scores, and quality standards.

## What Success Looks Like

* Higher valid-phone and accurate-contact rates.

* Lower duplicate, disconnected, inaccurate, and uncontactable lead rates.

* Better lead scoring and routing decisions.

* Increased answer rates, appointment rates, and sales conversion rates for customers.

* Clear visibility into which data sources are producing the highest-quality leads.

* A scalable, repeatable system for sourcing and enriching data as Penguin Leads grows.

## Qualifications

* 3+ years of experience in data science, analytics, data engineering, growth analytics, lead generation, ad-tech, fintech, telecom, or a related field.

* Strong SQL skills and experience working with large, messy datasets.

* Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis, automation, modeling, and data processing.

* Experience with APIs, web data sources, data enrichment platforms, identity resolution, or contact-data providers.

* Experience building data-validation pipelines, scoring models, dashboards, or automated quality-control systems.

* Strong understanding of data cleaning, deduplication, normalization, matching, and record linkage.

* Ability to translate raw performance data into clear business recommendations.

* Strong attention to detail and a high standard for accuracy.

* Comfortable operating in a fast-moving startup environment where systems are still being built.

## Preferred Experience

* Experience with consumer leads, insurance leads, mortgage leads, home-services leads, financial-services leads, or other high-volume outbound sales environments.

* Familiarity with phone validation, carrier lookup, CNAM, email verification, address verification, and identity matching.

* Experience with tools such as Snowflake, BigQuery, PostgreSQL, Databricks, dbt, Airflow, Tableau, Looker, Power BI, or similar platforms.

* Familiarity with TCPA, DNC compliance, consent records, suppression lists, and lead-data compliance practices.

* Experience measuring call-center, dialer, CRM, or sales funnel performance.
