We are seeking a creative, organized, and thoughtful Communications and Marketing Manager to help tell the story of our growing synagogue community through strong communications, marketing, social media, email, website content, and visual storytelling.
Position Overview
The Communications and Marketing Manager will lead and support Congregation Beth El’s day-to-day communications, marketing, digital presence, and storytelling. This role is responsible for creating clear, timely, beautiful, and mission-aligned communications for members, prospective members, families, program participants, clergy, staff, and community partners.
The ideal candidate is an excellent writer, strong project manager, creative marketer, and detail-oriented communicator who can balance warmth, professionalism, accuracy, and creativity. This person will manage emails, newsletters, social media, website updates, event promotion, print materials, and content capture at programs and events.
Key Responsibilities
Communications and Email Marketing
Manage the weekly e-newsletter and recurring member communications from planning through final distribution.
Draft, edit, proofread, and schedule email communications, flyers, website updates, event descriptions, registration language, signage, and printed materials.
Create and maintain communications calendars for programs, membership campaigns, holidays, High Holy Days, school partnerships, lifecycle moments, and major synagogue events.
Support email marketing efforts for programs, membership, adult learning, family programming, youth and teen engagement, Plaza Prayer, Shabbat and holiday experiences, donor communications, and community events.
Work with clergy and staff to ensure communications are timely, accurate, visually appealing, and aligned with CBE’s voice and priorities.
Marketing and Brand Management
Help promote CBE as a welcoming center for Jewish life, learning, connection, and belonging.
Maintain a consistent voice and visual identity across email, print, website, social media, signage, and promotional materials.
Support marketing for signature programs, guest speakers, Shabbat and holiday experiences, adult learning, family programming, youth and teen engagement, and community-wide events.
Partner with clergy, programming, membership, education, youth, operations, and development staff to gather accurate content and determine appropriate marketing timelines.
Create graphics and promotional materials using Canva or similar design tools.
Coordinate with printers, designers, photographers, videographers, vendors, and outside partners as needed.
Website and Digital Communications
Maintain website content and event pages, ensuring information is accurate, current, visually aligned, and easy to navigate.
Update website copy, program descriptions, registration links, event pages, and other digital content as needed.
Ensure public-facing information reflects current synagogue priorities, upcoming programs, membership opportunities, and community engagement efforts.
Social Media Management
Manage CBE’s social media platforms with a professional, warm, engaging, and brand-aligned tone.
Create, schedule, and post regular content across social media platforms, including program promotions, community highlights, event reminders, photos, videos, reels, stories, and synagogue updates.
Monitor social media platforms regularly, including comments, messages, tags, mentions, engagement, and overall public presence.
Develop social media content plans that align with the broader communications calendar and support CBE’s mission, programs, and community life.
Track engagement and help identify opportunities to improve reach, visibility, and connection with members, prospective members, and the broader community.
Content Creation and Event Coverage
Capture content at programs and events, including photos, short videos, behind-the-scenes moments, speaker highlights, community gatherings, and program recaps.
Assist with in-house filming needs, including short promotional videos, event clips, staff or clergy messages, and simple video content for email, website, and social media.
Help organize and maintain a library of photos, videos, graphics, logos, templates, and other communications assets.
Support storytelling around CBE’s programming, guest speakers, Shabbat experiences, adult learning, family engagement, youth programming, membership, and community life.
Coordinate with staff in advance of major programs to determine content capture needs, permissions, timing, and promotional opportunities.
Project Coordination
Track deadlines and follow up with staff to ensure communications are submitted, approved, and distributed on time.
Provide communications and marketing support during busy synagogue seasons, including High Holy Days, major events, membership renewal, donor campaigns, and community-wide programming.
Help manage communications workflows so departments have clear timelines, expectations, and support.
Balance proactive planning with flexibility during last-minute changes, urgent updates, or sensitive community communications.
Qualifications
Strong writing, editing, proofreading, marketing, and organizational skills.
Experience in communications, marketing, nonprofit administration, social media, content creation, Jewish communal work, education, hospitality, or a related field.
Experience managing social media platforms professionally, including regular posting, monitoring, content planning, and engagement.
Comfort creating simple photo and video content for digital communications, social media, and event promotion.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with accuracy, warmth, and professionalism.
Comfort working with clergy, staff, volunteers, congregants, vendors, and community partners.
Strong judgment around tone, timing, confidentiality, photography, video, and sensitive community communications.
Experience with Canva, email marketing platforms, website editing, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, social media platforms, or similar tools.
An eye for clean design, visual storytelling, and member-friendly messaging.
Ability to translate program details into clear, compelling, and accessible communications.
Familiarity with Jewish holidays, synagogue life, Hebrew terminology, or Jewish community settings is strongly preferred, but not required for the right candidate.
Experience with ShulCloud or similar synagogue database platforms is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and final role scope. Benefits eligibility will follow Congregation Beth El policies for full-time employees.
