Full Job Description

Summary

Aeration Control & PLC Engineer is responsible for PLC & HMI troubleshooting, commissioning and software maintenance. Overseeing the FAT and SAT of the Aeration Control System (LCP / MCP / SCADA integration). Aids Production Facilities and customers/SCADA Integrators and our factory trained Field Service Technicians on PLC & HMI turbo blower and aeration control system troubleshooting, inquiries during start-ups and beyond.

Main Tasks

· Troubleshoot Programmable Logic Control (PLC) based control systems with different platforms, including Allen Bradley, General Electric, Schneider, Siemens and Mitsubishi;

· Troubleshoot and maintain and upgrade the software of Local Control Panel (LCP) and Master Control Panel (MCP) with various industrial programming languages;

· Program and update software packages for HMI’s including Allen Bradley, General Electric, Schneider, Siemens and Mitsubishi;

· Work on different communications systems including fiber optic, ethernet, serial and proprietary industrial communications systems such as Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, Profinet, Profibus, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP;

· Work with SCADA, DCS and OPC servers;

· Work and troubleshoot the VPN systems;

· Troubleshoot the VB scripts, C script, Perl script, Java used on Ignition SCADA

· Work with VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) with open loop and closed loop control –Proficient in reading electrical & control drawings and BOM’s for the turbo blower and Master Control Panel, making as built and as commissioned mark-ups.

· Provide fast and dependable remote technical assistance to field support teams;

· Coordinate with various departments, suppliers and customers as needed;

· Knowledge about various aeration system components such as DO probes, flow-meters, modulated valve control and pressure transducers as per the Project Specification;

· Strong knowledge of NEC, UL/CSA and CE requirements;

· Prepare technical memos related to control system issues;

· Prepare and provide on the job training material to customers and internal staff;

· Maintain a well-organized and current technical database that includes configuration controls, software revisions;

· Develop innovative technical solutions to sell to customers as product distinctions and field upgrades.

Pre-requisites

· Bachelor’s degree in Control & Electrical Engineering;

· 5-10 years of experience in a similar position;

· Experience in PLC & HMI based control system programming and maintenance and troubleshooting;

· Beginner knowledge of programmable logic controllers and human interface machines including Allen Bradley (Micrologix Series – RSLogix 500, RS-Logix5000 CompactLogix and ControlLogix), Modicon M340 (Unity Pro), General Electric, Siemens PLC’s and HMI’s;

· Beginner in aeration system design and operation, especially in wastewater treatment plants is an asset;

· Good knowledge of SCADA, DCS and OPC servers;

· Good knowledge of with VB scripts, C script, Perl script, Java

· Excellent computer knowledge;

· Basic knowledge of AutoCad;

· Good communication and presentation skills;

· Good knowledge of English (written and spoken) is a must;

· Travel required (approx. 80% per year)

· The PLC Engineer should have extensive analytical and problem-solving skills and work well in a fast-paced environment. Must be proactive, independent, have excellent interpersonal and client-relation skills as well as strong technical abilities.
