Job Summary: The Quality Manager serves as the authority on product and project quality. This position ensures that all fabricated/manufactured products/projects and field installed projects meet customer requirements, contract obligations, and governing codes. The Quality Manager implements and oversees the Quality Management System (QMS), inspection and reporting processes, welding procedures, training programs, and audit activities across both shop and field operations. Once the QMS is in place, the Quality Manager will lead the shop into an AISC and SPFA certification.

- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve a quality program built around structural steel fabrication, miscellaneous metal fabrication, metal manufacturing, and pipe fabrication.
- Establish policies, procedures, inspection protocols, and documentation standards that ensure the highest level of quality is met on every project.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, contractual requirements, and applicable codes (AWS, ASME, AISC, AWWA, SPFA, etc.).
- Plan, conduct, and document internal audits; lead external audits (AISC, SPFA, etc.).
- Provide training to employees and foremen to ensure proficiency in the processes, welding standards, and inspection practices that make up the quality management program.
- Monitor and enforce welding procedures (WPS), welder qualifications, and continuity records in alignment with AWS and ASME requirements; recommend updates or corrective actions as needed; ensure calibration of welding machines, gauges, and inspection/testing equipment.
- Identify, document, and drive resolution of non-conformances, defects, or quality issues – issuing corrective actions, performing root cause analysis, and implementing preventive measures to eliminate recurrence.
- Maintain all required QC documentation, inspection reports, material certifications, weld maps, traceability records, and quality records in an organized, auditable system.
- Collaborate with fabrication leads, welders, project managers, and production teams to integrate quality checkpoints into workflows, minimizing rework and ensuring on-time delivery of flawless products.
- Stay current on AWS and ASME code updates, industry best practices, and advancements in metal fabrication QC; apply this knowledge to elevate department performance and maintain a competitive edge.
- Report directly on quality metrics, trends, and department performance; proactively identify opportunities for process improvements that drive efficiency without compromising quality.
- Conduct internal audits, supplier quality evaluations (when applicable), and prepare for any external audits or customers inspections.
- Conduct shop and site inspections to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Oversee the submission, tracking, and resolution of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and inspection reports.
- Review NCRs and corrective actions monthly, perform trend analysis and root-cause investigations, and report findings to Executive Management.
- Collaborate with the Safety Manager to ensure quality processes integrate seamlessly with safety requirements across shop and field.
- Collect and analyze shop and field quality data to identify recurring issues, reduce rework, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Communicate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and quality metrics to management and staff, ensuring alignment with MMWF’s Core Values.
- Mentor shop personnel to reinforce accountability, consistency, and quality culture.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or management.
Experience/Education/Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.
- CWI preferred.
- 5 years’ experience reading and interpreting blueprints
- Must be high quality oriented.
- Working knowledge of fabrication shop functions. Knowledge of welding shop tools, techniques, and equipment. Understand shop procedures and policies.
- Knowledge of AISC, AWS, and ASME.
- Exceptional communication skills

Physical Requirements:
- Regularly hear, talk, frequently required to stand, walk, and bend to lift or grab items.

Work Environment:
- This role operates within a welding and fabrication shop environment, with exposure to welding equipment, machinery, and various environmental conditions (both indoors and outdoors).
Additional Information:
- Supervision: This position does not directly supervise staff but requires oversight of task execution.
- Work Hours: Full-time, typically Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings or weekends. Overtime may be required.
- Travel Expectations: Some travel to MMWF jobsites around Colorado may be required.
