Position Summary
The Tech 2 Low Voltage Technician is an intermediate field technician responsible for independently performing installation, service, and troubleshooting of low voltage systems including CCTV, access control, intrusion/security alarms, fire alarm systems (under applicable licensing/oversight), and access gate systems. This role requires the ability to interpret plans and wiring diagrams, complete assigned work with minimal supervision, produce high-quality installations, and support commissioning, testing, and closeout documentation. Tech 2 technicians may also guide Tech 1 team members on best practices and jobsite expectations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
· Perform installations, service calls, and troubleshooting with minimal supervision
· Read and interpret prints, scope of work, submittals, and wiring diagrams
· Pull, route, support, label, and terminate cable to company and industry standards
· Use test equipment (meter, toner, basic network tools) to verify wiring, power, and signal integrity
· Maintain clean, professional installations (cable management, labeling, device alignment, hardware mounting)
· Identify jobsite issues early (materials, access, infrastructure conflicts) and communicate impacts promptly
· Document work performed, changes, and as-builts as required
· Maintain tools, vehicle stock (if applicable), and material accountability
· Follow all safety procedures, customer site requirements, and quality standards
· Provide professional communication with customers, other trades, and internal teams
System‑Specific Responsibilities
CCTV Systems
· Install and service cameras, mounts, housings, NVR/DVRs, switches (as applicable), and related components
· Perform camera aiming, focusing, and basic configuration/verification (streams, recording, motion settings where applicable)
· Troubleshoot common issues including power loss, video quality problems, connectivity, and device communication
· Confirm system operation and assist with turnover/commissioning support
Access Control Systems
· Install and service readers, strikes, maglocks, request-to-exit devices, door contacts, and control panels
· Terminate and verify door wiring to controllers (including power supplies and relays as applicable)
· Troubleshoot common access issues (door hardware alignment, power, reader communication, REX/contacts, lock operation)
· Support basic system programming/validation as directed (credentials, door operation checks, schedules if applicable)
Security / Intrusion Alarm Systems
· Install and service keypads, panels, power supplies, motions, glass breaks, contacts, and related devices
· Perform functional testing (zones, signals, tamper, power fail) and support customer walkthroughs
· Troubleshoot false alarms, device faults, wiring issues, and supervision problems
· Ensure consistent labeling and documentation for serviceability
Fire Alarm Systems (as permitted by licensing/company policy)
· Install and service fire alarm devices, cabling, and related modules in alignment with project requirements
· Support testing, troubleshooting, and inspection readiness under required supervision/oversight
· Maintain strong attention to life-safety requirements including device placement, labeling, and documentation
· Report deficiencies promptly and document corrective actions accurately
Access Gate Systems
· Assist with and perform wiring/service for gate operators, safety loops, photo eyes, edge sensors, intercoms/readers, and control hardware
· Verify safety device operation and proper function before leaving site
· Troubleshoot gate access issues related to low voltage components (safety circuits, access inputs, power to peripherals)
· Follow strict safety practices around moving equipment and high-risk areas
Leadership / Mentoring Expectations (Tech 2 Level)
· Provide day-to-day guidance to Tech 1 technicians (work methods, quality, safety, organization)
· Model best practices for clean installs, labeling, and professional customer interaction
· Support the Lead Tech with progress updates, punch list items, and closeout readiness
Required Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent
· 2+ years low voltage field experience preferred (or equivalent proven competency)
· Proven ability to complete typical installations and service tasks with minimal supervision
· Ability to interpret wiring diagrams/prints and apply standards in the field
· Working knowledge of at least two of the following: CCTV, access control, intrusion, fire alarm, gates
· Valid driver’s license and ability to meet customer background requirements as needed
Preferred Qualifications / Certifications
· Manufacturer training or certifications (CCTV/VMS, access control platforms, intrusion panels, etc.)
· OSHA-10/OSHA-30, lift certification, or similar safety credentials
· Fire alarm licensing or NICET (where applicable/desired)
· Networking fundamentals (IP addressing basics, PoE concepts, switch basics)

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
