Mechanical Designer / CAD Designer / Engineering Technician

About Vermont Industrial Products

Vermont Industrial Products is a leader in mechanical seals, seal repair, industrial mixers, and custom-engineered solutions. We work with manufacturers, municipalities, utilities, and industrial facilities throughout the Northeast and beyond.

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Draftsman / Engineering Technician who enjoys both design work and hands-on mechanical problem solving. This position combines CAD drafting, product development, troubleshooting, quality control, and assembly support.

This is not a desk-only drafting position. The ideal candidate enjoys seeing projects through from concept and design to manufacturing, assembly, testing, and customer application.

Responsibilities

Create and modify detailed 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software.
Develop manufacturing prints, assembly drawings, and technical documentation.
Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Develop assembly procedures and work instructions.
Reverse engineer existing equipment and components.
Assist with the design and development of custom mechanical seal systems, industrial mixers, shafts, and related equipment.
Support manufacturing and assembly personnel with technical troubleshooting.
Assist in diagnosing mechanical failures and identifying practical solutions.
Perform quality inspections using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring equipment.
Participate in prototype development, testing, and continuous product improvement projects.
Work closely with customers, vendors, machinists, and production personnel to develop custom solutions.

Qualifications

Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other CAD platforms.
Ability to create and interpret detailed mechanical drawings.
Strong understanding of mechanical assemblies, manufacturing processes, and industrial equipment.
Experience creating both 2D drawings and 3D models.
Familiarity with BOMs, assembly documentation, and revision control.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Comfortable working in both office and shop environments.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Experience

Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting, Manufacturing Technology, or related technical background.
Experience with rotating equipment, pumps, mixers, sealing systems, bearings, or fluid handling equipment.
Knowledge of GD&T and mechanical tolerancing.
Experience with machining, fabrication, assembly, or repair work.
Experience in industrial manufacturing environments.

The Right Candidate

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving mechanical problems and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty when needed. You may be helping design a custom assembly in the morning, inspecting components after lunch, and assisting with troubleshooting a mechanical seal or mixer later in the day.
