By helping talented students from under-resourced backgrounds access these institutions and providing them with the tools necessary to succeed, LEDA seeks to ensure that this country’s leadership is truly reflective of its citizenry. LEDA’s vision is to build an inclusive and equitable America where leadership reflects, celebrates, and supports diverse perspectives.

Each year, LEDA’s Summer Institute serves 100 high-achieving high school juniors from low-income families, recruited from across the nation to become LEDA Scholars. Throughout the intensive five-week program, Scholars participate in a rigorous seminar-style course called Aspects of Leadership, as well as receiving college guidance, writing instruction, and standardized test preparation while experiencing a supervised version of collegiate residential life.

Position Overview:

LEDA is seeking an Assistant Health Director to serve in residence for the 2026 Aspects of Leadership Summer Institute at Princeton and Yale. The assistant health director is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all Scholars during the Summer Institute. They assist the Health Director in managing all Scholar medical forms, conducting health screenings upon arrival and as needed, maintaining the onsite Health Center, and serving as the first responder in the event of a health emergency.

The 2026 LEDA Summer Institute will take place from June 20 through July 25, with the first three weeks at Princeton and the last two weeks at Yale. The Assistant Health Director is required to arrive on the Princeton campus one week prior to the Summer Institute for staff training. Room and board are provided.

Key Responsibilities:

Support staff training pertaining to camp health and safety, CPR, first aid, and use of universal precautions for infection control;
Alternate on-site, on-call shifts with the Health Director to ensure 24/7 emergency support for Scholars;
Maintain and review Scholar health histories, examination forms, and vaccination records, as required;
Conduct health screenings of incoming Scholars and daily health surveillance;
Maintain medication dispensing system and medication log;
Maintain Health Center and first aid kit supplies and submit order requests when necessary;
Provide first aid for minor injuries and illness;
Keep accident/incident reports;
Know, understand, and follow all emergency procedures;
Liaise with local health professionals and emergency services, as needed;
Maintain communication with staff, parents, Scholars and directors about student health;
Support first-aid preparation for off-campus trips and other events;
With the Residential and Operations teams, help to ensure appropriate accommodations for Scholars with health needs including transport to urgent care, if necessary.

Qualifications:

Nurse practitioner, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, emergency medical technician licensed in the state of New Jersey (or able to temporarily transfer license)
Certified in Advanced First Aid, CPR, AED, & Epi-pen
Prior experience in a camp or school setting is preferred
Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to relate to highly motivated students of all backgrounds
Demonstrated commitment to LEDA’s Mission and Core Values
Willingness to be on-call nights and weekends and to spend the summer in residence
Must be up to date with vaccinations required by the state of NJ & the Covid-19 vaccine
Must be 21+ years old

Compensation:

This position is a seasonal and temporary appointment and will be compensated $7000 for the term of this engagement (5 weeks of Summer Institute + up to 7 days of training/prep). This pay is subject to any applicable federal, state and local tax withholding. Room & board is provided free of cost to LEDA staff and a 6 day work week is standard. LEDA provides transportation from Princeton to Yale for the final two weeks of the program.

Please note: This position is not eligible for benefits.
