BUS DRIVER
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, operates a school bus and is responsible for student and passenger transportation, safety, and discipline during regularly scheduled routes or on a specific trip basis. Incumbent performs other related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates a school bus and other District vehicles to transport both general education students and students with disabilities, to and from school on scheduled routes, and extra-curricular or athletic trips.
Follow assigned schedules and routes.
Picks up general education and students with disabilities at designated stop locations.
Directs the loading and unloading of vehicles and monitors student scanning and attendance.
Supervises the behavior of all passengers aboard vehicles to maintain safety and discipline.
Drives defensively, following state and local safe driving practices.
Drive in adverse weather conditions and chain the bus when needed.
Administers First Aid, CPR, and Crisis Prevention Intervention when needed.
Maintains student rosters, trip mileage records, logs, and student data reports.
Bi-annually conduct bus evacuations with students aboard.
Attend driver meetings, training, and safety programs for professional development.
Maintains safety performance standards and meets the required minimum of 10 hours of in-service annually.
Must take and pass the Annual State of Nevada School Bus Driver test with a minimum 80% passing score.
Performs vehicle safety inspections before departures following established procedures.
Disinfects, cleans, and maintains the appearance inside and outside of assigned vehicle daily.
May perform related office, clerical, dispatching, or service pool duties as needed.
Understands and follows all pertinent state, local laws, administrative code, FMCSA, Nevada Department of Education, and district policies.
Subject to passing a pre-employment drug test that follows the guidelines of the FMCSA, Department of Transportation and district policy.
Additional Duties:
Performs other duties related to the position, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Education: Equivalent to a high school diploma.
Experience: A minimum of six (6) months to one (1) year of related experience that would demonstrate the ability to perform the duties.
Licenses/Certificates : Must possess a valid Class C Nevada Motor Vehicle Operator's License; obtain and maintain a Nevada Commercial Driver License Class B with a passenger endorsement; and a school bus endorsement. Note : To obtain a CDL, applicants must be at least 21 years old, according to Nevada Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) regulations. Completion of a recognized First Aid course and CPR Certification is required.

Learning to recognize and deal effectively with physically challenged and non-ambulatory students' various medical emergencies.
Learning to evacuate all students including physically handicapped and non-ambulatory students from a bus in emergency situations.
Administering basic First Aid.
Learning assertive discipline techniques.
Learning to secure wheelchairs and safety restraints.
Lifting and carrying heavy objects.
Following oral and written instructions.
Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions.
Reading, writing and speaking English at a level required for successful job performance.
Working effectively in stressful situations.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive benefits.
New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
