The Role:
We are seeking a 3D Modular Environment & PCG Artist with specialized experience in Unreal Engine 5 and Procedural Content Generation (PCG).
In this position, you will create modular environment assets, establish reusable world-building kits, and develop procedural workflows that allow our team to rapidly construct detailed, cohesive, and scalable game environments.
You will work closely with level designers, technical artists, programmers, lighting artists, and other environment artists to translate high-level artistic and gameplay requirements into modular environment systems that can support everything from handcrafted spaces to large-scale procedurally generated worlds.
You will play a critical role in defining how our environments are constructed, assembled, populated, and optimized throughout production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Modular Environment Production: Create modular architectural kits, environment assets, props, terrain components, and reusable building pieces designed for flexible level construction.
- PCG World Building: Design and implement Unreal Engine 5 PCG graphs, rulesets, and workflows for procedural environment generation, asset distribution, vegetation, debris, structures, and environmental detail.
- Environment Systems: Build modular asset libraries that support rapid level assembly while maintaining consistent scale, visual language, materials, and quality.
- Procedural Workflows: Develop procedural systems that allow designers and artists to generate and modify environments efficiently without requiring manual placement of every asset.
- Unreal Engine Integration: Import, configure, and optimize environment assets within UE5 while ensuring proper collision, materials, LODs, Nanite settings, and procedural compatibility.
- World-Building Tools: Create artist- and designer-friendly workflows using PCG, Blueprints, Editor Utility tools, and other Unreal Engine systems to streamline environment production.
- Level Design Collaboration: Work closely with level designers to ensure modular assets and PCG systems support gameplay requirements, navigation, sightlines, encounter design, and player flow.
- Material & Texture Development: Create and maintain environment materials, material instances, trim sheets, tileable textures, decals, and other systems supporting modular asset production.
- World Optimization: Optimize geometry, materials, instances, PCG graphs, asset density, collision, memory usage, and rendering performance across low- and high-end PC hardware.
- Set Dressing: Establish procedural and manual dressing workflows for props, vegetation, debris, environmental storytelling elements, and other world details.
- Environment Consistency: Maintain consistent proportions, grid alignment, texel density, material standards, and visual quality across modular environment kits.
- Technical Problem Solving: Diagnose and resolve issues involving PCG generation, asset placement, collisions, materials, procedural rules, streaming, and environment performance.
- Documentation & Support: Maintain clear documentation for modular kits and PCG systems and provide guidance to designers and artists using them.
Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency with Unreal Engine 5 environment production workflows.
- Hands-on experience creating modular 3D environments and environment asset kits for games.
- Strong practical experience with the UE5 Procedural Content Generation (PCG) framework.
- Experience building PCG graphs, rulesets, filters, spatial queries, attribute manipulation, and procedural asset distribution systems.
- Strong understanding of modular environment design, grid systems, snapping, scale, proportions, and reusable asset construction.
- Experience creating production-ready environment assets using Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, or similar 3D software.
- Strong understanding of environment modeling, UVs, materials, texturing, and asset optimization.
- Experience with Unreal Engine materials, material instances, decals, foliage, instancing, and environmental shaders.
- Strong understanding of Nanite, Lumen, World Partition, HLOD, level streaming, and Unreal Engine optimization.
- Understanding of procedural generation concepts including spatial queries, randomness, noise, transforms, distributions, and rule-based generation.
- Experience collaborating with level designers and technical artists to build scalable environment workflows.
- Strong attention to visual consistency, modularity, performance, and usability.
- Self-motivated with a track record of building clean, organized, reusable, and production-ready environment assets and systems.
Nice to Haves:
- Experience with Houdini and Houdini Engine for Unreal.
- Experience creating advanced procedural environments using Houdini, PCG, or custom procedural tools.
- Experience developing modular dungeon, city, building, road, or biome generation systems.
- Experience with procedural vegetation, terrain generation, scattering, and environmental population.
- Experience creating modular environments designed specifically for Nanite.
- Knowledge of World Partition, Data Layers, HLOD, One File Per Actor, and large-world optimization.
- Experience with Unreal Engine Landscape, Foliage, PCG Biome, or other large-scale environmental systems.
- Experience with Substance 3D Designer, Substance 3D Painter, SpeedTree, or similar environment production tools.
- Experience creating trim sheets, tileable materials, vertex-painted materials, and procedural material workflows.
- Experience with Blueprint or Python scripting for environment production tools.
- Experience creating custom Unreal Editor utilities for asset validation, placement, organization, or environment generation.
- Experience with runtime procedural generation or dynamically generated environments.
- Knowledge of multiplayer considerations for procedurally generated or large-scale environments.
- Experience optimizing environments for both high-end and low-end PC hardware.
- Previous experience establishing modular environment and PCG pipelines for a project from the ground up.

This position is on a Profits Share. Pay range does not dictate promised pay
Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
