Position Summary
The C3 Group is seeking an experienced Senior Editor/Writer to support WarU at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The successful candidate will support the editorial and publication processes for the Defense Acquisition Research Journal and a variety of other WarU publications and communication products.
This position works closely with editors, authors, reviewers, and government stakeholders to support manuscript development, editorial review, publication schedules, and quality assurance activities. The ideal candidate will have exceptional editing skills, demonstrated proficiency with APA style, experience supporting scholarly publications, and familiarity with double-blind peer review processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit, proofread, and review manuscripts for publication.
- Ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, grammar, punctuation, and adherence to publication standards.
- Apply APA style and formatting requirements to manuscripts and publication materials.
- Support the administration and coordination of double-blind peer review processes.
- Coordinate with authors, reviewers, and stakeholders to preserve author intent while maintaining editorial quality.
- Support editorial workflow management and publication schedules.
- Maintain manuscript tracking, version control, and document management activities.
- Coordinate edits and revisions among multiple contributors and reviewers.
- Review publication materials for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established editorial standards.
- Edit, proofread, and provide editorial support for a variety of unclassified WarU publications and communication products, including award citations, annual reports, event programs, presentations, posters, guides, and other publishing projects as assigned.
- Maintain effective communication with authors, reviewers, editors, and government stakeholders.
- Support additional editorial, publishing, and communication activities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Technical Writing, Publishing, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of professional editing, proofreading, technical editing, publishing, or related editorial experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency applying APA style to professional or academic publications.
- Exceptional command of English grammar, punctuation, usage, syntax, and editorial best practices.
- Experience editing complex documents while preserving author voice and intent.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience coordinating reviews and incorporating feedback from multiple stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, including Track Changes, comments, and document review features.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and successfully complete a government background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting academic journals or peer-reviewed publications.
- Experience supporting or coordinating double-blind peer review processes.
- Experience working with authors, researchers, and subject matter experts.
- Experience with publication scheduling, editorial workflow management, or manuscript tracking systems.
- Experience supporting the Department of Defense, a federal government agency, higher education institution, or research organization.
- Familiarity with Adobe InDesign.
- Master's degree or higher in English, Journalism, Communications, Publishing, or a related field.
