Full Job Description

Tired of hospital shifts, floating, and being a number? Our AAAASF-accredited outpatient surgery center in Cary is building a small pool of dependable per-diem circulating nurses. We are not looking for a new face every week. We want a few great nurses who get to know our team, our patients, and our routine, and who we are glad to see walk in.

Most days support a busy bariatric and GI surgery program (sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and similar minimally invasive weight-loss procedures). Strong pool circulators also back up our aesthetic plastic surgery days when our regular team is out.

You would:

Circulate in a calm, daytime outpatient setting: positioning, prep, sterile technique, surgeon and anesthesia support, specimen and equipment handling, room turnover
Back up recovery and give breaks as needed
Maintain strict sterile technique and accurate, on-time charting

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Op / PACU Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive pre-operative admission for GI surgery patients
Initiate IV access, administer medications, and ensure proper patient preparation
Monitor patients during recovery from moderate sedation or general anesthesia
Assess airway, hemodynamic stability, pain, nausea, and surgical sites
Document patient care accurately in compliance with AAAASF standards

OR Responsibilities:

Circulate and/or scrub for GI procedures (e.g., SADI, gastric sleeve)
Assist with patient positioning, skin prep, and maintenance of sterile technique
Support surgeons and anesthesia providers during procedures
Ensure proper handling of specimens, implants, and specialized equipment
Assist with room turnover and timely case starts

Qualifications:

Active RN license in the state of North Carolina
Minimum of 1-2 years of operating-room experience (surgery-center experience a plus)
Current BLS required; ACLS preferred for Pre-Op/PACU positions
Comfort with moderate sedation support, airway monitoring, post-anesthesia recovery, and sterile technique
Minimum of 1–2 years of operating room experience (ASC experience preferred)
Strong assessment, critical-thinking, and patient education skills
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
