With this location being open for only a year, the usual first year issues are there. Yes it can be stressful, but it's basic work stress which every restaurant has. The hospitality industry is not always for everyone. There have been bad employees with poor attitudes, but they've been let go or moved on themselves. A regular day consists of learning cooking/prepping skills and maintaining your assigned station. It's a fun/casual environment. I've seen a lot of kitchens and this one is always clean. Customers are super friendly, which is rare and welcomed! The owner is amazing, and truly cares about her people, the guests, and her scratch menu. It's a breath of fresh air to work for her because she's so passionate about doing the right thing. Another reviewer mentioned problems with the area manager but I've been here for over a year. I think she's been dedicated, fair, and open minded working with everyone.  I've experienced no issues myself with that person and in fact I'm grateful for the support I've been shown. Overall, Brown Bag Seafood is what you make of it. If you show up with a can-do attitude and the willingness to learn, you'll shine. If you stir up drama unnecessarily then the problem is you. It's a great place to learn kitchen skills, in a fun environment. I would recommend the company to my friends. The current management team is working really hard to preserve the positive vibe and encourage growth. 

A typical workday is pretty long and stressful. you know I feel like they would’ve had a lot of things to teach me that I could’ve been receptive to, but due to the lack of employees they have and the lack of management skills over the store you really don’t get the chance to learn anything. The management there honestly, in the best words I can give them is horrible, because it’s not about your growth in your potential it’s about what they want you to do when they need you to do it how they want you to do it. The culture restaurant is honestly really calming and really welcoming for guest as far as employees. It’s not so welcoming when you walk into the back of the restaurant it’s not clean it’s not up to part it’s not what you think a restaurant would look like on the back. Yes we know that is busy and that things have to move out of fast pace, but that does not mean we should lower the standard of cleanliness for quantity. The hardest part about the job is really not getting fired. It seems that they’re so ready to fire you before they actually give you a chance to actually show your true potential after you’ve gotten a feel for everything. I would say the thing that I most enjoyed about being at Assistant General Manager at Brownbag seafood it is meeting a different team members and really getting a note I’m on a deeper level and at least letting them see that there are managers out there that do care about what they have going on personally in our life and can still run a business at the same time. 

I really enjoy working for this company or  my store. The culture that is promoted is great. They always try to be as positive as possible and encouraging. Unfortunately its hard to believe in this company and want to buy into their hype when my bank isn't in the positive because they are so cheap with the pay. They offer no benefits or rewards for working for them, which leaves our team short-staffed because the turnover is so high. No extra pay for working holidays, No bonus to make up for the lack of hourly pay and they hold incredibly high standards and expectations but don't even offer any incentive. If I worked for McDonalds I'd At least be offered tuition reimbursement and other benefits along with a higher rate of pay. They are a horrible employer in my opinion. 

Management had very obvious favorites and you couldn't do anything about it. If one of the favorite employees doesn't want to do something they will just make someone else do it and say "you need to have more responsibilities here". Everyone felt very cliquey and not inclusive at all. They are very unclear about what you'll be doing in the job in the interview and down play all of the tasks you have to do. They should pay their employees more for the things they are doing. Management basically just sits around and doesn't help until there is a rush and then right when it is done, they go back to just sitting around. They don't train you very well and expect you just to know what you're doing.

Being under paid for the work you do. Having zero actual benefits for hourly employees. Working with inadequate team members

It's screw over your most talented employees while promoting & praising the lazy/ incompetent employees.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Nothing is restocked by the closing crew. They team you up with people who can't keep up. Then they dump a lot of prep work on you so that they can sit around on their butts.

There is no support! I've been at this location for two months and I haven't felt supported once. Everyone talks behind each other's backs. Especially the area manager, they just speak ill of all the other GMs. You barley have time to think let alone get everything that needs to be accomplished done. The compensation is ridiculous. They offer you a base salary but in order to get it you need to finish your training for one bonus, then meet all thre requirements to hopefully get another bonus to reach the compensation you want. No weekends off and can't take time off during the summer. 

Brown Bag is a healthy alternative Seafood place where you can have lunch and enjoy. I pretty much love helping and serving the customers. By me working BOH, I rarely talked to customers. My co-workers are awesome to work with. I feel the need of togetherness when we're in a rush. The only negative is the GM stiring up minor drama and not helping us when we have multiple ticket orders. Only time she helps is when the hire-ups come in.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy and high demand with loyal customers and fresh products.

A normal day at this restaurant was smooth until rush hour. Then the hungry customers would rush in and thats when the real work begins. The place gets packed and you either taking orders, delivering the,work the cash register, or in the back washing dishes.

Might have just been the location I was at but the managers played favorites and the people they promoted to lead positions were only the favorites. Management and leads always taking breaks in the dining area instead of pitching in  when staff was overwhelmed  and in need of help.
