Cambridge Senior Living is a clean facility with wonderful residents, and many staff members work well together. However, my overall experience working here was very negative due to ongoing issues with management and staffing. There is a huge lack of support for employees. Staff are expected to come to work even when sick, and scheduling is often changed without notice, like being added to shifts or holidays unexpectedly or day of. Employees are also required to make up shifts after calling in for being sick. Management communication is extremely unprofessional, with staff overhearing themselves being spoken about negatively on more than one occasion. These concerns have been addressed several times, but no action was ever taken. The workload is also a major concern. Although the facility is classified as assisted living, many residents require much more intensive care, including Hoyer lifts and sit-to-stands. This leaves staff feeling overwhelmed and rushed to get all of their tasks done before the shift is over. Staff often do not have time to take breaks due to the overwhelming and understaffed workload, but breaks are still taken out of your paycheck. I also have concerns about limitations placed on residents’ food and drink, which doesn’t seem very homey in a place that should be their home. All of the signs are clear that Cambridge cares more about making money, than they care about their staff and residents. I would not recommend working here due to the lack of staff support, terrible management, and too high of workload expectations. 

When I started my employment with Cambridge I loved my job, over time it came to my attention that many of my coworkers did not like me simply for the fact they were unwilling to get to know me. Over time things changed and i was able to feel comfortable in my work environment again. Unfortunately in this time management would name drop when you went to them with issues and made matters way worse before they were able to get better. I was recently let go from this company but it does not change the way I feel. I still loved this job. Unfortunately the management had put me on suspension and then fired me due to something completely unrelated to the investigation that was held. With the knowledge I have now of how management and admin treat their staff I would not recommend working here to my worst enemy. They do not communicate well by any means and put their caregivers in compromising positions at all times. They do not understand or care about burnout or work life balance, refuse to offer full time positions but will have your paychecks sitting at 100+ hours for weeks and months on end. Unfortunately it was a bad experience and I already had planned to put my notice in if that says anything about the company as well. As well as the turn over rate being so high, I always hoped that it was just a matter of who was being hired but clearly as time went on it was shown that it was the way that the staff are treated.

I was very, very excited after having my interview as it seemed like a wonderful place to work. The regional HR manager who interviewed me said they put a special focus on mental health and want everyone to feel at ease and that they have the resources they need to work here. However, it seems to be the complete opposite of that. 95% of my coworkers were very young. Either still in high school or freshly graduated and didn’t seem very interested in thoroughly doing their job or just didn’t know what they were doing. I saw several coworkers taking selfies in the bathrooms and gossiping amongst themselves instead of working. Many were mandated to stay for more than their own shift without extra pay due to others not showing up or leaving. HR was also very unorganized especially in the beginning and “couldn’t find” my paperwork that I submitted and I had to do it all over again. If you’re solely looking to make decent money, thrive in stress,  have no work-life balance, and have incompetent coworkers then this is the place for you. Yes, the building is brand new and beautiful on the outside but that has nothing to do with how it’s being ran on the inside. I don’t buy the whole “we LOVE our employees” spiel because they definitely don’t show it. Don’t be fooled. 

The building itself is very nice, and updated. The rooms themselves are very spacious, which makes maneuvering lifts easy.

The atmosphere is a completely different story. Management is horrible, and doesn’t care about you whatsoever. It’s like working with a bunch of people who peaked in high school and never wanted to grow up (both care staff and management).
They mess with your time sheets to make sure they don’t have to pay you overtime.
They will have you working more than full time hours, but only hire you as part time, so you won’t really get benefits. 
Understaffed is an understatement. 
I was told that the AM shift will not get extra help or on call utilized because we can “rely on management”. Which is rich, given they actually would rather just sit and gossip with each other than actually care about the wellbeing of the residents. 
Their motto is “putting the CARE in healthCARE” but again they don’t actually care about the wellbeing of the residents, and are going to sweep any concern under the rug so they don’t have to deal with it.
And all this is just surface level stuff!


The residents are the best part of working here. Unfortunately, staff turnover is extremely high and training is rushed/inconsistent. New hires are often pushed into med delegation before fully learning routines or resident care, which creates extra stress and workload for other staff. The lack of standardized training directly impacts if the new staff succeed or fail (basics: peri-care, catheter care, changing/repositioning schedules, laundry & cleanliness, time management and resident “check-ins” while on the floor).

Management communication and support were lacking, and concerns often felt brushed off. The on-call schedule was exhausting — expect to be asked to come in early or stay late often. Work/life balance suffered because of it, especially shifts that have less staff.

Pay is decent, but the environment, lack of standardized training, and constant inconsistency among staff make it hard to stay long term.

I absolutely love working for Cambridge Senior Living. The managers are truly working hard behind the scenes to ensure all staff members are living up to their highest potential. Healthcare in general is a hard field to be in, but Cambridge makes staff feel valued. I personally like the fact that managers also work the floor and get to know residents at a personal level. I have never been with a company where the president has worked with floor staff. Cambridge is growing, so there is always room for improvement. The management team values floor staff's feedback so they can improve. It is nice that they actually listen to your feedback and try to work with you. As for training, they do have a handbook in place on an app where I have access too. Most of my questions are answered with the tools I am given, but I still ask questions and they get back to me quickly. Renewing my CNA license was super easy and I have access to all of my CBRF licenses on their app. With how Healthcare is currently, I think Cambridge is exceptional. 

I worked here for over 6 months. At first it was fine but upper management changed hands twice and would leave those working on the floor very confused. They’re good at selling you the company during orientation but as soon as you get on the floor there is almost zero training. Trainers were not told when they would be training and would just be thrown with a trainee,  making it very confusing for both parties. They use a lot of quotes I would consider to fall under the term “toxic positivity” (management look that term up of you’re reading this) in order to give the appearance of a happy environment. If you need to guilt your employees into working multiple twelve hour shifts a week and stretch them out to their breaking point then maybe you shouldn’t run a business. It hurts both the employees AND the residents (they claim to be resident-centered, by the way). Just don’t even apply. They need to get their act together big time.

The residents. And the building is beautiful.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management is the worst I've ever worked under, especially the kitchen. You are required to work 12 hr weekends, which is not told to you up front. And managers don't do weekends or holidays 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful all the time! Complaining from workers and residents all the time! Not enough of a budget for food, so we always had to come up with last minute meals or dessert that's not even on the menu.empty promises from management, " once we meet census we can give bonuses,hire more people and give raises" which NEVER happens!!!been open 4 years NEVER reached census!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Come in at 6 am to 2 pm or 10 a-7pm...on weekends 6am-6pm... complaining about running out of everything. Most residents are fine with the menus, some feel entitled to get special treatment.

When I started working here everything was going just fine, and I enjoyed my job. I had asked to work less hours and was told this was fine, but then was cornered into picking up hours where I felt I was unable to say no due to feeling intimidated. Management is awfully pushy and do not care if you are sick or dying, they expect you to come in, even when you’ve asked every possible person you can and no one will help you, and they will be texting you all night to let you hear this. And then there’s the on call policy where they will post the schedule and then update it and not send any picture or anything to you and you’re just expected to be okay with that because “company policy”. I am not impressed at all with this company or my experience with it, you don’t get any benefits at all, most coworkers will ask and ask for you to cover them and when you do they will never return the favor. Don’t waste your time.

Good environment only for the fact that the employees made it a great environment for the residence

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very busy. No one to help with the residence. We had to get up 15 to 20 residence by yourself at 7 AM. Dress them pass out medication’s by eight get them out to the dining room for breakfast set the tables, serve the food, then clean it up and put them all back in the rooms for their nap with only one person doing it all.
