My tenure as a BSP (Behavior Support Provider) at the Victoria, TX office was profoundly challenging due to significant environmental and operational deficiencies.

The role was structured as a one-person department in the Victoria office, meaning I was consistently isolated without any on-site supervision or direct support. While I had remote supervisors, this geographical detachment proved to be a critical flaw, leaving me completely alone to navigate a deeply problematic office culture.

The primary issue stemmed from an environment characterized by extreme unprofessionalism and interpersonal hostility among the on-site administrative and nursing staff, with whom I shared office space. I routinely observed and overheard loud, profane, and highly disruptive conflicts among colleagues, often occurring in the presence of vulnerable clients. This created an incredibly stressful and unwelcoming atmosphere that made attending the office a distressing experience. 

Furthermore, I experienced targeted, passive-aggressive workplace maltreatment, including the mysterious and repeated disappearance of my office desk chair, requiring several reordering of basic equipment. This behavior fostered a toxic and unsupportive daily reality. 

The initial training for this position was grossly insufficient, consisting of barely two days of in-person instruction before I was expected to manage all job responsibilities independently. This lack of comprehensive onboarding, coupled with the profound isolation, set me up for immediate difficulties.

Prospective applicants should be aware that the enthusiastic and optimistic portrayal of this position during the hiring process stands in stark contrast to the reality of working in this particular office. The company appears to prioritize filling roles over ensuring a safe, professional, and supportive working environment, especially for isolated remote staff. I urge others to exercise extreme caution.

I worked at Caregiver Inc for 2.5 years. A typical day of work would be me coming in to see 3rd shift asleep on the couches in the homes, with blankets and pillows. Only a few night shift staff would deep clean so shout out to them. I would come in and pass medications to the consumers, I would make breakfast for them (even though the consumers are supposed to cook,)I would try to follow their diets but wouldn’t always be able to. The consumers hardly ever did anything for themselves because staff wouldn’t do their job in encouraging them to be independent. The consumers would just stay in their rooms all day until meals. Most staff were lazy. It was a drama filled work place. Consumers needs aren’t often met or taken care of and if they were, it was because State Officials walked through the door and now everyone is pretending they know what the heck is going on. I love(d) my consumers though and they became family very quickly. There were plenty of times where I was blamed for something that wasn’t my fault. Management often sits on their thrones and blame you for every little thing, even if it’s out of your control. They only care about their image it seems like. I worked my tail off for years and there was no opportunity to advance or move up. It’s a very discouraging workplace after a while. This company is okay with allowing consumers to do nothing but color coloring books, watch tv and eat all day and not help them advance or gain independence. The consumers are the only reason why I stayed and I tried to do the right thing even if nobody else was but it doesn’t work. Staff will be at each others throats with drama. Telling management hardly helps anything though. Overall, I pray for all the consumers I worked with but this company seems to be going downhill. 

My interview went really well! However, by my first anniversary almost everyone that was employed when I started was gone. It is a very unorganized company, communication (or lack there of) is non-existent! My third shift hours went from an 8hr shift to a 10hr shift with no heads up! They made the decision on Thursday or Friday, that Monday the change was in motion! And I found out when I called asking about my relief.  The additional work keeps piling on, with no additional pay, other than the newly added overtime. My 2nd year here I signed up for company insurance....what a joke! $750 a month and it covered NOTHING!! Meetings are announced the day before they get scheduled. You are required to attend, or you are suspended... however they schedule them at 8am when some of us do not leave work at 8am anymore! Or 4pm, some of us with kids, are not able to attend either. What little staff they have works double shifts at multiple houses, which then makes for an exhausted, overworked, then burned out employee! And getting someone to actually give you a straight answer for anything, doesn't happen! It's a string of tag texts/emails, and runaround. I would have to agree that this company NEVER SHOULD HAVE SOLD OUT FROM SOTO TO CAREGIVER!!! Clearly does not live up to the name! Far as money.... In 3 years I have gotten one raise of $1. But each year more responsibility! Haven't even had an evaluation since my 90 days. The $1, everyone got! So you go unnoticed, if you are a hard worker!!

Making a difference in the lives of the individuals we serve. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The absolute administrative incompetence regarding role clarity. Management forces staff to sign legal documents while titles and job descriptions remain unverified. There is zero job security; they treat long-term tenure like a liability rather than an asset. You are expected to be an expert in a role they can’t even define.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic, top-heavy, and built on intimidation. While field managers do the actual work, Corporate and Clinical leadership hide behind emails and use meetings to publicly bully and belittle staff. HR is a joke—they aren't there to support employees; they are clearly too terrified of leadership to stop the cycle of harassment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A 24/7 hostage situation via personal cell phones. The company is built on wage theft: they force you to clock out for unpaid lunches to keep their payroll records clean, but provide no designated window to actually take them. You are expected to attend mandatory meetings and handle endless expectations during that same 'off-clock' time. You are set up to fail with overlapping 'mandatory' calls and then berated for not being in two places at once. It is a sinking ship fueled by unpaid labor and corporate ego.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The Neverending overtime. Easily able to work 100 or more hours per week

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Many of the client can be difficult to work with and getting a day off can be close to impossible. If your paycheck is wrong they will never fix it and get you your missing money. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very stressful. Client with severe anger issues that should be in jail but aren't. You are supposed to just deal with it. Other Clients need to be in nursing homes and aren't. Again...deal with it. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
6am wake clients and provide them breakfast. Help them with dressing and bathroom needs. Distribute meds at 7am. Drop them at dayhab or have them ready to be picked up for it by 8am. Be back and pick them up at dayhab by 4pm. Take them home and make dinner. Clean up dinner dishes. Assist with showering and getting ready for bed. Distribute night meds. Assist clients as needed with getting into bed. Sweep and mop entire house and clean all surfaces. Weekends include all the above plus lunch meals and full bedroom cleaning including all laundry. Also includes full bathroom cleaning. Weekends typically consist of working 24 hours or more with no sleep.

If I could rate as -1 star I would !!! This company is a joke! I have worked there for 6 months and there is little to No communication, they hire ANYONE and I mean ANYONE to work and take care of the vulnerable individuals. It is beyond poorly managed! As a DSP you are basically treated like you are your own manager, you are treated like you do not matter whatsoever. Management ( when they do speak to you ) speak like DSPs are lower than they are, they speak to you with no respect. Management also clique up and show favoritism, they hire their friends and family to work and then show favoritism towards them. Most of the management is on a power trip and abusing their power. They will leave you on shift for hours with no relief so just be prepared with a bag with extra clothes and a blow up mattress ! Caregiver INC, a little peice of advice, if you want people to stay and grow with the company have a company worth growing and staying with !!! Thank you so much for the absolute worst 6 months of my life ! If you value yourself and mental health PLEASE CHOOSE A DIFFERENT JOB !!!!!!!!

What is the best part of working at the company?
1. Don’t work here. They don’t care about you nor the clients. Many many times I had to sit over my time cause no one wanted to come in. The management is HORRIBLE. 2. DO NOT bring your loved ones here to live and be cared for. Management stresses employees out and threatens their jobs even though they don’t have enough staff for anything. So many people have quit even before I did because it was so bad for them. The clients need better and deserve so so so much better. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management didn’t care to get someone in if you had to stay over for someone calling off. Management is lazy so is many of the other dsps. Management likes to threaten jobs even though they don’t have enough staff. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Horrible, clients are good and most are sweet but the management is so bad.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Easy but too easy. They never have money for the clients to do something. There’s no reason staff should be sitting around the whole shift.

Whenever I was working for Starling, it was great my first few months, I actually ENJOYED coming into work. Until, Management treated all their caregivers like we didn’t mean anything to the facility at all. They do NOT care about the residents like they say they do, nor do they care bout the Caregivers. Caregivers never got a day off, always got yelled at for something they couldn’t get too on time. Even though we did, housekeeping, changes, baths, breakfast, lunch, dinner, EVEN ACTIVITIES because we had lost 3 activities in the last 2 months. Caregivers are constantly in and out it’s like a revolving door. They WILL falsely accuse you of neglecting a residents, they won’t tell you who, why, when it happened, nothing. So, if you ever think about working here, or even bringing a loved one here, please don’t. The residents won’t get the proper care that they make it out to be. Everything is fake. Keep your eyes open in interviews, and walk through’s if you’re bringing a family member in. 

A typical day of work for me consists of communications with corporate, operations and our frontline DSP's (Direct Support Professionals) to better streamline business objectives, Full cycle recruitment, Employee retention
and Employee relations...etc.

I've learned a lot about DBHDD requirements. 

Management here is usually promoted from within and have a clear understanding of what our DSP's do on a day to day basis. 

The culture here has improved significantly since I've been here. Everyone working together to achieve the same goal. We have the greatest direct support professionals who treat our participants as family. 

The hardest part about this job is leaving work at work. You grow a bond/connection with the participants you serve and it's difficult to not get attached. 

The most enjoyable part of this job is making a difference. 

Stressful and a lot of staff are there for the overtime and money. If you are hard worker you will be taken advantage of after their wining and dining phase. Management are not transparent about individuals with high behaviors putting new staff at risk as well as fellow individuals. 
Hardest part of the job is inconsistent schedule and drama from staff. ( Bringing their personal life to work as well as their boyfriends and husbands). Abusive staff to staff verbally and unprofessional to clients and staff setting other staff up for failure and getting in trouble if your not in the click.  Hopefully the click has been somewhat changed up as of recent. 
Overall the individuals are wonderful. Sadly the good staff are taken advantage of and over worked. There has been some changes recently hopefully for the better.
