If you are considering working here...DON'T!!! There are so many other companies around town doing the same line of work...go to one of them instead!! 
     I haven't been happier since I left and am so glad I now work for a company that truly appreciates and respects their Direct Support Staff. As soon as I put my 2 weeks notice in I was harassed, belittled, threatened and had my name smeared for things the PD didn't want to take responsibility for. Its ok, I forgive you. I mean you did warn me you'd do that when I first signed HM papers...so ya my bad. And you would think if a loyal staff that's been with the company for several years, working 16hour shifts, 7 days a work quits, you would ask them why they are leaving....not this company! They could care less who comes and goes unless you're a straight up snitch for the PD...which she has several planted in almost every home most of whom she has brought with her or worked with at different company many many years ago. Some have even quit via no call/no show(or an "I quit" text an hour prior to shift) and somehow were able to come back a month or two later when most employees would be considered non-rehirable if they did that. Hmmm... 
         They also preach that office staff and support staff can't be friends outside of work or on facebook yet the PD has her snitches on her fb and has the office staff add people on fb to keep tabs on them.  Many office staff are "besties" with support staff and go to dinners and concerts together. Definitely a do as I say and not as I do office mentality! (Btw enjoy that new office position N..you've definitely earned it!). 

Definitely Apply for this job if:
 1) you are a FaceTime addict. you can video chat your whole shift ignoring your individuals and not get in trouble even though its a huge HIPAA violation AND considered neglect. Just make sure your paperwork is complete prior to leaving shift and you're good. 
2) You love false documentation. Happens all the time in homes sometimes even on the recommendation from office staff for funding purposes and to make sure the individuals plans look like they are being met per state policy. 
3) You love working long shifts without a break.They have even been known to leave you on shift if someone no shows and will simply tell you we will try to find coverage when they know nobody will come in.  
4) You love eating healthy. You 100% cannot eat food at work in front of the individuals unless it is a healthy option. And yes, that recently came straight out of PD's mouth at a house meeting. I'm pretty sure telling employees what they can and cannot eat is a violation of their rights but hey, that's just my opinion. If eating healthy isnt your thing or you forgot your lunch (hey it happens i totally get it) you could always take a ride to the office as they have local restaurants delivered to them for lunch daily. Office always smells so good, especially if you go right after lunch. 
5) You have a strong desire to reminisce your high school years. You will absolutely love all the drama, snitching and backstabbing.. Unfortunately there's no hair pulling if that's your thing. They don't drug test upon hire either soooo... you do you boo-boo. 
6) You enjoy working for little pay while others are getting offered more than $1 raises to stay after they put their 2 weeks in. Oops!! I forgot this subject isn't supposed to be talked about so shhh...

And last but not least...#7. I know, I know.. You wanna know more but I don't wanna ruin all the fun or surprises for you so I'm ending it here with a quick summarization. Promise once you start, this last one will make TONS of sense! 
   
 7) Quickly go apply if you are simply there for a paycheck and do not care about the individuals rights or helping them progress through life at all. Oh the Conservator wants things done a certain way but office sees differently? it ain't happening. You have to side with the office and do things how they seem fit or you get in trouble. Person centered right?! So definitely a huge plus if you're a rebel and like going against the conservators wishes and expectations. Gotta help office staff meet all their goals and look good for corporate so they can get their year end bonus! Woo-hoo!

Working for D & S Community services is a rewarding one if you have the right perspective. The persons served that we assist have different developmental and intellectual disabilities. Each personal served is different and requires a different level of care. Your daily duties will be to assist each person served with medication, food intake, cleaning, and community involvement. You will be required to maintain all certifications and be trained on all assistance plans. Assistance plans range from dietary to behavioral.

As a home manager you will be required to train all staff that assist within the home both full time and part time. Planning out persons served daily routines in the community, staying in contact with conservators, and also keeping up with all medical appointments. Depending on the person served home managers may be required to keep track of all financials. Maintaining paper work and communicating with the main office is a major part of the job.

Since being employed at D & S I have learned the importance of team work but also vision casting within the team. No assuming that people hear you just because you are talking and also not taking for granted the true motivation and character of staff. I love being able to play a part in the continual life improvement of our persons served. Being involved with their conservators you become a part of their family. You begin to understand the hardships they have but you take a hands on approach to helping them grow and become more involved within the communities they live in.

If you want to put your license in jeopardy THIS IS THE PLACE!!!! Not only do they treat their employees disrespectfully, but they won't even keep toilet paper in the bathroom or supplies for the clients they serve. If you need extra hours they are notorious for not getting coverage for the next shift leaving you working an unexpected double. They will leave you in a position where you are out of ratio and won't even pick up the phone when you call the on-call staff. If by some miraculous turn of events you do get someone on the phone you are down graded, disrespected or they hang up in your face disregarding the fact that you are calling because there is a need for one of the individuals they serve( I use the term serve loosely ). I know of one of the employees that had to call in sick with a medically documented issue where this person had an excuse from the MD and they were punished for being out by ensuring they did not get this person relief and they were forced to pull a double. I stayed for only 2 days and left never to looked back. My heart goes to the clients that have to deal with sort of company. I've known employees there that are excellent nurses and DSPs, but it will only be a matter of time before they leave as well. To all the clients in the homes..God bless you and know that you are in my prayers.

Being an employee of D&S is a great experience. Local Office Administration is amazing. It is difficult to find staff especially good staff. Corporate and Investors need to understand just how much work is done in the field offices and direct support staff really do work. DSP pay is not enough and all benefits are too costly and do not provide enough coverage however recent changes headed in a good direction. Stress level is high but for the most part because I care about the people supported getting the care they need and the fact that being understaffed is difficult for the staff we have. Direct Support staff do not always know or understand that office Staff don't control certain things. Office administration answers to the State and Corporate Administration. The site I work for has so many caring and compassionate staff who want the best for those we support and the employees on the ground. Would love to see better pay and benefits for those in the homes. Those that work and give it their all. A good improvement would be merit raises not general raises. All companies have good and bad, good and bad reviews. It is honestly an individualized experience. You get out of this job what you put into it.

This woman is a very terrible person to work with and/or around. She is very rude and disrespectful. She seems to believe that she is more than she truly is and definitely attempts to act that way. She told me that this job "comes before your family", and that it didn't matter what went on with my husband or child I HAD TO be at work regardless.  I was never paid the proper wage or for the proper amount of time that I had worked and when I asked for copies of my time sheets she refused and had no right or reason, there was not client names or house numbers on my time sheet so there was no confidentiality breaching risk, she just flat out didn't want me to find out that she had changed my times, I know she did this because when I turned in my last time sheet she scoffed at the idea that I had spent many hours on "modules". I would not advise ANYONE to work at this establishment. The pay is ridiculous and your coworkers are very unhappy greedy people. This place is ALL about the MONEY, not the quality of life of the clients. The secretary I speak of has the office as soon as you walk on the left, I would advise you avoid her office at all costs. This woman has a special talent for twisting and lying about whatever she can to make herself feel powerful.

Everyday at work would consist on assisting with targeted goal training, medication distribution, preparation for lunch, distributing 25-30 lunches, cleaning a huge room, tables as well as sweeping and mopping, maintaining a clean work environment, dealing with behaviors, case workers/social workers, communicating effectively and efficiently with visitors, and providing information of the status of the goals met, maintained or exceeded. I learned that despite the difficulties of those with intellectual disabilities that you can not feel sorry for them, but treat them as if they were just like you, and that they understand just as well as the next person without a disability, and that understanding is truly what will make them grow, as well as help them, but they also are still intellectually disabled, and you must acquire patience and understanding. The hardest part of the job was lack of communication from other authorities, when you go above and beyond. The most enjoyable part of the job is loving and caring for someone, who may not have family, shopping with them, seeing the smile on their faces when they get something they love, accomplish a goal, or they just see you.

I have been with D&S Community Services since May 2025, and in that short time this organization has already made such a big impact on my life. I began my journey as a Direct Support Program Supervisor, where I was able to serve and support individuals while helping guide staff in providing the highest level of care. Recently, I was honored to receive a promotion to Administrative Office Coordinator, which has opened a new chapter of growth and responsibility for me.

What I love most about working at D&S is the purpose behind the work we do. Every day, I get to be part of something bigger than myself empowering individuals, supporting families, and working alongside a team that genuinely cares. The culture here is uplifting, supportive, and focused on making a real difference in the lives of those we serve.

I am grateful to be in a place where hard work, compassion, and dedication are valued, and where I have been given the opportunity to grow professionally while continuing to do what I love. D&S is not just my place of employment it feels like a community and a calling.



My job is so easy and laid back. There is days when it can get a little tedious, but the days usually roll by. You end up becoming family to your clients because they start to get to seeing and working with you on a day to day basis. While you are there to help them gain and grown independence you do learn from them as well. Patience is a vulture, but remembering that they are just like us just more challenged the job will be a breeze. The most enjoyable part of the job is when you gain the satisfaction of self  accomplishment because you have helped and made a person or persons feel good and have a progressive day. The hardest part of the job is detaching yourself from a client/clients if they leave or you leave or something may happen to them. It gets hard because you start to get to know, understand, and love that client. The work culture in the workplace is versatile and there is no discrimination. You learn CPR, First Aid, and any other certifications that will help you along the way if you ever have a situation where you may have to apply what you have learned at the workplace or on a client.

I only worked here for a few months, but during those months I witnessed messy staff and management. Overall the girls I cared for were very sweet and loved me as well as I loved them and it wasn’t a dull moment at work. The company is very poor at scheduling because it would be times where I would come in and another staff was already on the clock.(the house manager never got the schedule right because it’s 1 staff per shift.) The pay is so low and you only get a decent check if you work over 50+ hours in 2 weeks. Although it can happen because they are so low on staff they will most likely make you work days plus overnights even though it’s against policy (I’ve done it plenty of times before leaving). I loved the girls but the job just wasn’t worth all the negativity and poor management that the job has offers. And you only get paid 9.50 an hour with no yearly bonus (the other employees I was close to told me this) and time paid off sucks because they only give you 1-2 hours of TPO). I do not recommend working here it will be a waste of time

Poor management. No one in the office knows what a plan of care is or about much of anything, but you will be written up for failing to provide care on an independent individual, one you've never trained on, with no plan of care in the home. You are not properly trained, then written up for it. There is favoritism with relatives working in the homes and office. No teamwork. Expect to do all the work on your shift. If you write in the com log your shift notes, be careful. If you have complaints you will be out the door. Those with seniority dont like you to report problems that will disrupt their lazy routines. Could never call out sick or take PTO time because of short staffing.Your shift relief is most always late, so be prepared to wait about going home after your shift ends. If managrment likes you then consider yourself lucky. If you're a good worker, be careful. They don't like to be upstaged. The turnover rate is high and the appreciation for your hard work is low.
