It's an enjoyable place to work, and for all of the moving around, you get to meet different clients, 90% are sweethearts, but you have a few that might be stressful until they get used to you. It takes time for some, but once they do, they're just as sweet as everyone else.

The general dsp moves to different houses each night, depending on where staffing needs are. Once you get a permanent house, that's where you go every day. There are SEVERAL different options as to where you can move around within the company, so that's nice.

Co-workers are alright, because you see the same people from week to week, unless you're overnight, then you work alone, unless there's extra staff, which happens from time to time. Overnights pretty much relieve the day staff, and the next day, the day staff relieves the night staff. 

Generally, there's cleaning, laundry, and brief changes to keep you busy through the night.

Management is nice, but they do have a heavy work load. They do their best to accommodate everyone as much as they can. 

Pay isn't great, but it's not job that you for money. It's a job you do to help others, and that's the rewarding part. If it's but something you're interested in, then don't apply, and leave after a month. It isn't fair to the clients or employer.

Overall all, a good place to work, the only con is the pay. It should definitely be a few dollars higher for everyone involved.

Before I left, I dreaded going to work. The only thing that kept me there as long as I was there, were the consumers. 
A typical day is being on your feet for 12-13 hours while management does nothing. Oh wait, they like to tell your personal business and talk about staff behind staff's backs.  I am a worker and don't mind working or being on my feet but when you have a manager that just sits there while staff does it all it becomes extremely frustrating. 
Or when upper management shows up to a house for a get together and they snub staff or completely ignore them.  I wouldn't ever want to be a part of that management team. So unprofessional and have little regard for anyone but their clique.  If one doesn't like you, then the rest of them follow suit. Fortunately, I can care less what they think of me. I was great until I started asking for accountability from management and began saying no!!! I never fe;t comfortable due to the color of my skin and heard others voice this as well. Hardest part is dealing with the drama and the lack of respect from management.  the consumers are so much fun and make it worth it. 

They do not communicate well. The training is fine if you receive all of it but you don't know if you have or not. They are misleading. They intentionally leave out important information and leave their workers in unsafe situations. They don't seem to care about employee safety or well-being. They expect literally, the impossible in some situations. There are simply not enough employees and/or hours in a day to make the math work. They are more concerned with appearance than anything. As a company they do not seem to work within the community on behalf of all their houses and leave each house to fend for itself. I get that is not their fault that nobody wants to fund care for special populations but finding ways to work with the city and community (we have a caring generous city compared to most) to do more for the consumers. Replacing appliances that don't work. Again not in the budget but in the long runwith all the time and utilities it would save, I would imagine they would break even. They don't take care of their workers. Most of the consumers are amazing and it's hard not to adore them! Some consumers should require more support staff than what they do or should not continue to be housed in these facilities.

I would have to say that this job takes over your life ya sure its nice to live rent free but , its almost like they own every min of your day . Even on days u had off someone would be knocking on your door. There was no family time ever , if u r gonna take this job I would have to say only take it if u dont have kids because your kids will never see u . Also the management sucks I and my husband we there for 3 years and went through 5 different manager's,  and the turn over with staff is horrible because they hire anyone . They pay sucks u work overtime all the time because people call in and the sub pool sucks so u end up working.  They can move u at the drop of a hat , that means your kids change schools all the time. And the way they mofe the clients from home to home , its so sad . They talk about them building frienships but how can they do that if u move them away from people they have lived with for years and just up and move them. They also have the couples filling out paperwork to make the client look as bad as they can on paper so they more money from funding.  My husband and I fought the last year or so that we were there , but now that we dont work there anymore our marriage is back to normal.

I was a DSP, and workd with usually 2 people with cerebral palsy/autism/other disabilities per "teacher" ratios. staff cook, clean, do laundry, give showers, change peolpe, manage crazy behaviors and get people to appointments and occasionally get to go on outings to Sonic, Walmart, etc. Shifts are typically 12 hrs, and are very chaotic and stressful. 

The management is the problem at this company. The CEO is out of touch, he recently moved the clinic to the middle of nowhere out in johnson county to save money and it has made things a lot harder. the day center is really crazy and a lot of people hate going there. The upper mnt enjoy lots of benefits, while the employees at the bottom get paid $10/hr. Middle management is stressed and lots of people are selfish. Management picks favorites in a lot of cases. I love my job, but I've seen lots of employees cry at how stressful the job is usually in combination with a bad manager. Management is abusive - they know they can turn and burn employees.. HR hires anyone with a pulse. 

The most enjoyable part is the people tbh. i love the consumers but its hard when coworkers are burned out and stressed 2 the point of tears. there are good moments, i recommend getting lucky and getting into a good house without all the drama.

I have had mostly fantastic experiences working at Goodlife. I have became so close with those I care for in the home and consider them family. I know that most of the people who work here care about the consumers and their well-being. However, the responsibility put onto DSPs and Team Leaders by upper management is absurd. There is so much to manage all at once and management more or less leaves it up to the lower-level staff to handle it by themselves. I understand that the nature of this job is difficult and that there are many things going on behind the scenes but the amount of times I've been left with no explanation for something and told to figure it out is alarming. The training does not prepare workers for the amount of stress that this job entails. The lack of accountability for upper management and hypocritical feedback towards lower staff, the long 12-hour work days, lack of in-depth training and low pay. No wonder the turnover for employees is so high! In summary, you need really thick skin and an incredible work-ethic to be able to thrive in this job. I love my job, only because I care deeply for those I serve.

As someone who worked their way up in the company over a period of time and can speak to different departments, roles, and people, please do not work for this company. I truly had no idea how bad this company was until I left. They take advantage of all employees in all departments. They gaslight you by telling you you’re valued and important only to make you work 3 full time positions for very (very) little pay. Trust me, they do not value their employees. They manipulate you and will change your job 10 times in a week. They make up job titles and positions on the fly with no real thought. There are no benefits to working for this company. If only the board truly understood what goes on behind the scenes. The CEO is a narcissistic salesman who admires pyramid schemes. The entire leadership team is a joke. Don’t get me wrong there are some amazing people that work here, but it’s not the leadership team. I feel sad for my old coworkers who feel stuck working in such horrible conditions. The only reason they stay is to help the people they serve. 

The average length of time for an FTM couple is 22 months. Working with the clients is very rewarding but it does not outway the lack of respect that managment shows its staff. I was at an FTM meeting where it was discussed cutting back the hours of weekend staff, the question was asked "why would we cut the hours of the postion with the highest turnover?" the answer summerizes CLO's attitude, "The economy sucks and we have a list of people to replace them if necessary". I know the perks are inviting, but I promise you it will slowly suffacate your family and when you leave you will have nothing. Your pay breaks down to minumem wage, you will not have support from management, and they will not have the client as the number one. I was there for four years and just in Lawrence knew of five divorces, please rethink this company. Go to a reputable place like Boys Town.

Honestly if you want to work at a place that puts employees last, then this is the place for you. DSP workers aren’t treated fairly and no matter how much time and effort you put into this company they will never acknowledge the hard work you do and instead they’ll move you around or replace you. Team leaders are a joke, they treat you with no respect or understanding. The consumers are great and I love every single one of them, but the company is a nightmare and the higher ups take advantage of the freedom this job gives you and do nothing but slack off. I should’ve known from the beginning this company wasn’t good when the people who were supposed to train us on important subjects never showed up in the whole week we were in training because they lack in communication. Please if you care about your mental/physical health don’t work here! 

CLO was a bad experience for me. I loved working with the consumers, they were wonderful. They give you training at the training center in Olathe. You get one week of intense training but once you get placed in your assigned Home’s you receive no training. I felt like I couldn’t ask my supervisor anything. She seemed irritated when I asked her any questions about anything and that was a bad feeling. It seemed very cliquish among the employees. I don’t think they care much about their employees and if they don’t want you working there they will find a way to get rid of you. I have worked in some other homes and this company has been the worse as to how they treat their employees. They should have weekly meetings with all staff present so people know what’s going on, how annoying to have your supervisor text you instead of talking to you, bad place
