I stayed at this job longer than I should have, and the only reason was the clients. I genuinely cared about the members I worked with, and helping them brought purpose and fulfillment to my work. Unfortunately, everything else, particularly the leadership and structure, made the role unsustainable.

Turnover is constant. Multiple employees leave every month, and rather than hiring replacements, the workload is passed on to remaining staff. Caseloads easily exceed 100 clients with no added time, support, or realistic expectations. Staff are constantly drowning in tasks without acknowledgment or relief.

There’s a clear divide between leadership and front-line staff. Higher-ups regularly work from home and avoid unsafe conditions like snowstorms, while those providing direct services are expected to report to the office, even though nearly all work is done via computer and Zoom. You are expected to be alone in the office if there is no other staff, which is now more often than not with h the turnover, for 10+ hours. Safety concerns are routinely dismissed.

Communication is disorganized and inconsistent. Asking the same question to different people yields completely different answers. Schedules and responsibilities change without notice, meetings are assigned last minute, and leadership frequently changes direction with no warning or explanation. If you express concern, you're often brushed off, ignored, or met with vague non-responses that arrive long after they’re needed.

Feedback is only welcomed when it’s positive. Constructive input is often seen as complaining. Requests are denied without reasoning. You may be told you’re doing great, only to have more work added the next day with no plan in place. When you ask for help, it’s common not to get a response at all.

Professional growth is non-existent. We were told not to expect scores above “average” in evaluations regardless of our performance. Support is surface-level, and favoritism plays a major role in how staff are treated. If you're not willing to play politics, you’re often overlooked or minimized.

This field will always involve some level of chaos, but what happens here goes far beyond that. The environment is chaotic, disorganized, and emotionally draining, made worse by a culture of gaslighting, blame-shifting, and a complete lack of accountability.

Unless there is a major overhaul in leadership and structure, I would not recommend this workplace to anyone. The mission may be good, but the execution is deeply broken and it takes a serious toll on those trying to do the right thing.

I was hesitant to work for a Suboxone clinic because of its reputation in the area I live in. But, after my first face-to-face interview I knew that Groups was different in the way it approaches treatment for Opioid addiction. Now, I love working for Groups because we are here to be a part of the solution (not the only solution), to create a community of recovery, and to help give hope to everyone affected by the disease of addiction. I love working for Groups because all team members are open to new ideas and encourage staff to keep thinking creatively about how to treat addiction. I think that Groups is effective because it offers best practice treatment at a reasonable price in rural areas that often don't have access to treatment. I also think that Groups is effective because it recognizes that our form of treatment is not for everyone and is willing to help clients find alternative treatment if needed.  I love that we can work with a client in a comprehensive way that touches all areas of a person's life. I love the compassion and caring that is mixed with empowering clients while holding them accountable for their choices. I love that Groups wants to be a part of the community they practice in. It is a privilege to walk with clients on their journey and it is a pleasure to work for a company that sees all of its staff as part of a treatment team. Both my supervisors are available to speak with if a problem arises that I can manage on my own. They both care about their staff and make sure that each person has what they need to succeed in their job. The hardest part of my job is not having enough hours in the day!

This is the worst company I have ever worked for. I should have know not to take the position, when one of the hiring managers, showed up 45 minutes late for my interview. And trust me it got much worse while I was employed with them as an office coordinator. 
Management never reported to offices as they stated they would, when you needed assistance you could never reach them, it would take them days to respond back to you. Managers had unhealthy relationships with certain employees such as; sending text messages that were not work related, talking about their weekend of parting and getting drunk, gossiping about other team members and it goes on and on. 
Many HIPPA violations with this company. Managers transporting member files in their vehicles, allowing non-management personal to transport member files, members files being placed by a window where anyone walking by could see them. Member reports not being locked in a secure location. 
There are set rules and guidelines that are to be followed, but that rarely happens and if you are the one following them, others respond to you negatively. 
If you work for this company be prepared to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Because you will be given a phone app and are expected to answer it. I had members calling me at 5:00 am. You will work a minimum of 45 hours a week and get paid for 40, stating you can flex your time, which never happens. Most offices only have one Office Coordinator for 50 to 200 members and no help from corporate or management. 
If Groups offered me 2 million dollars I would not take that job back, that is how bad this company is to work for.

Groups has undergone some major changes since its inception and humble beginnings in Indiana.  While at first a grass roots fellowship of those in need and professionals, additional support has come alongside to ensure new regulations have been met so that members will soon be able to file more than two insurance plans and take advantage of state government grants like Recovery Works.  Recovery Works early on recognized the viability of Groups and its mission.  The state of Indiana approved it as one of its approved forensic programs for the treatment of Opioid Use Disorders.  It has been a pleasure to be a part of the start up here as well as seeing the potential for reaching more people.  While it may lose some of its early uniqueness as the only pay for fee service that was affordable to all it has gained an ability to be more accessible to those who have been in long term use and lost the ability to work temporarily due to their medical fragility.  We serve a wide variety of members from professionals to those who are out of work with basic skills training needs.

Groups is unique in that it is not at all limited solely to the traditional formulas of how treatment should be administered. Groups is primarily focused on providing quality care for members while utilizing evidenced based materials, yet at the same time allowing space for the counselors to grow into their own unique and individualistic strengths and styles of counseling. Members constantly comment on how appreciative they are for the creative and caring type of atmosphere and environment provided where they can feel supported and at the same time held accountable. Staff is very empathetic towards the disease of addiction yet works hard to maintain the balance of accountability required for supporting growth in the lives of each member. Groups encourages professional growth and is constantly striving to achieve a heightened level of success with members lives as well as the lives of the staff team of clinicians, office coordinators, etc. If you are looking for a rewarding career that challenges your own personal and professional growth while at the same time supports and encourages you along the way, I cannot recommend a better option than Groups. Groups does a great job with the patients. The organization as a whole really strives to help and empower the mission. The program they offer is nicely structured and is very successful. I have learned a lot about addiction and recovery through Groups. The atmosphere is relaxed non judgmental member feel safe to come to Groups which I think speaks volumes. 

The hardest part of the job is seeing or hearing the struggles and battles that someone might go through on a day to day basis. Then you may see the progression and how rewarding it is when the person takes the tools given by Groups and things start to look up.
Another not easy task is it can get a little crazy depending on phones ringing while trying to help members but all of that is pretty controllable. Hours vary which is the only conflict makes being a mom challenging but everyone is willing to work together to make sure things are covered,

There is so much support from Ops Specialist to Regional Managers, Clinical Manager to help you at anytime to problem solve. This company is truly a team fighting the same fight. They collaborate as a team to individual a treatment for a member. 

Truly blessed to be apart of this team and the mission the strive to conquer.

A typical day at work would involve facilitating 5 to 6, one hour groups daily via telahealth . Making no call no show phone calls and spending time one on one with members Monday through Thursday. Not this was changed, upper management  began to dictate and change staff working hours regardless if staff had prior responsibilities or family functioning.   
What I learned at Groups was member care takes a back seat to the bottom line and making money at any cost. 
I have had some good supervisors, however after 8 years and expanding across the US, things again changed Supervisors and Regional Directors  no longer advocates for staff. 
Management is okay, however you may need to escalate issues to a higher level to find answers.  
The Culture at Groups is great, the staff is welcoming , but watch out for clicks .
The hardest part of my job was advocating for my staff and my members.
The most enjoyable part of my job was working with my Members, I look forward to seeing them every week. 

This is hands down the most toxic place I have ever worked.  Some people on the leadership team brag about how they don't do anything  Well, for the OM's,  that stinks because in the OM position, you work from the time you walk in in the morning until the time you leave, and then some more when you get home.  They do not pay for hours worked past your regular time...and to be honest, they don't ask you to work extra like that, but in order to get the next day started off without being behind, you have to.  Groups was the most chaotic job I have ever worked.. There is no rest...No work/homelife balance.  Management consists of a group of people with little or no education...and they have zero ideas on how to keep employee morale up.  The pays seems phenomenal until  you get in there and see what the job involves...Run unless you want to be micromanaged by a "leadership" team that does nothing that I could see...but they surely expect you to do your job.  If they spent as much time working as they did sitting in zoom meetings and sending out emails telling everyone what to do...they would probably never be behind..


As a Counselor at Groups Recover Together, I started 2 years ago on October 1, 2016. At the time there were only 2 offices in my region.  What seemed like a grass roots movement in our area, I spoke with the founders and owners of Groups. I was informed of of the mission and values Groups was bringing to the area. It was an amazing opportunity for me, For the first time in my career I felt I could now effect change and really do what I am good at. using Person Centered - Evidenced Based Treatment , I am able to communicate / teach / and guide the people seeking recovery with anatomy. I have support from my leadership all the way to the top! I have been offered advancement, or have had opportunities for advancement, but I love just being with my Group, the people. As a counselor I have an opportunity to witness people changing their lives , providing for their family and thriving in the community. I am small part of that, as each person in empowered to take the lead in their lives.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The members and the relationships that developed while helping people in their journey to recovery is truly rewarding.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The Management of this company do not care about their employees.  They tout a supportive environment and say that they promote a health work/life balance; while at the same time are always adding to the workload.  They are very demanding and are always increasing the workload, while they do not maintain the same expectations of themselves.  
It is very much an us vs. them mentality,  and employees are held to much different rules than the Management.  ( Do as I say, not as I do.)

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They claim Equity and Inclusion, however, they do not exhibit it.  And the environment borders on toxic between the Management and the employees.
