I worked at Kopp for several years. It’s very “comfortable” and my co-workers were great. Kopp worked with me and was flexible with my schedule. While there is a lot of micro-managing, they do appear to be trying. I have a favorable view of the family that owns the company, the HR dept and my team were fantastic. I have a less favorable view of mid-level management and their quality/training dept. Unfortunately, there just always seemed to be a communication issue with what client policies/procedures were and the team’s understanding of those policies. You kind of always felt like you didn’t know what was going on. There is a lot of work to do, so you will always be busy. You will definitely make a friend working at Kopp. And I do feel I was paid fairly. What I enjoyed most about working at Kopp were the people, talking to/helping patients on the phone and it’s an excellent resume builder—you learn a lot, albeit there is little room for growth within the company itself.  There can def be drama at Kopp—but only if you do drama. Some people are happy at kopp, a lot of people outgrow Kopp and some people just don’t have a good experience there. It’s a good place to get your feet wet and it’s the type of work you don’t have to think about after you leave. 

Kopp is a family-oriented company which has worked with me with my changing schedule due to child-care, ect. I started in the pre-collect department which isn't a bad start into the medical billing arena. I worked my way into the special projects billing dept. There is definitely room for growth if you are willing to be determined, able to learn and have a positive mindset and compassion for the work. The owners will listen to your ideas and have an open door policy. Our pre-collect trainer is brilliant and makes the experience for newcomers rewarding. Supervisors are approachable and will listen to your concerns. You can dress casual within reason, it is a professional office. We have many clients and seem to be growing. The pay is okay, what you would expect for just starting in medical billing. Overall, KOPP is a fair company, a great place to start a billing career!

The biggest problem is micromanaging. If you have to miss a day they make you use your pto, or you have to make the time up, if you don’t you get a point towards your firing. It feels segregated as people are cliquey, not at all welcoming, and supervisors will forget about you right after your first week of training unless it’s talking to you about something you did wrong. And If you’re black working here, be prepared to be ignored and no one to remember your name, or mix it up with another black worker’s. Certain workers have had inappropriate and political discussions that are unprofessional and offensive. The pay needs an increase, 16.50 in this economy is ridiculous.. the things I did like were the cupcakes every month, but that’s it. Kind of a soul crushing job otherwise.

I really like working at Kopp Billing Agency.  This is a family owned company which has been growing steadily since it began in 1963.  The management is fair with its compensation and benefits.  They also provide career growth opportunities within the company.  Kopp Billing Agency clearly states its policies and procedures with all employees.  These clear expectations have created a good environment where all employees know how to succeed in their specific job as well as within the company.  They have a very clean and professional workplace environment.  Everyone is very friendly here.  It's a great place to work.

I have been with Kopp since April 2020 and must say this is a great organization to be a part of. Kopp and the owners care about the staff. People are not just numbers at Kopp, they are human beings that bring value to the company and team as a whole. Management holds bi-weekly All-Staff meetings and gives shout-outs to people that go above and beyond, they provide office updates and any other updates that will impact the staff. The leadership team is very understanding about individual circumstances and they try to help anywhere it is appropriate. The company was and remains fully committed to ensuring the Kopp staff is safe during COVID 19 and did not furlough or layoff anyone due to COVID, another example of employees not just being a number. 

There is no chance of moving up unless the head management like you even if you are there for 6+ years and have lots of knowledge and experience.  Someone coming off the street with no experience can become supervisor position and make more money than you (being there for years).  When you have family issues and you need to take time off it is held against you in your review.  When you do not take a vacation for 5 or more days that year it is also held against you on your review.  The job itself was easy and a good job to do but the management people make you feel like you are not worth anything and not good enough.

Management and HR pick favorites and don’t take into consideration those who are actually qualified to move up  in the company. They stress the fact that we are a “family” but don’t treat half of their staff that way. It’s always a red flag when an employer claims that their staff are family. Pay is not at all competitive but they expect you to do the work of several people. They think that treating staff to free bagels and cake monthly compensates for the horrible pay that they offer. Because they pick favorites, there is almost no way to work your way up in the company. Overall I would not recommend working for this company unless nepotism applies to you, in which case you’ll be treated like royalty around there, even if you have no idea what you’re doing. 

is a very familiar place everybody is nice, but is favoritism when you on training they focus on somebody else and they left you doing the same stuff. you probably not smart enough to understand all that. I haven't feel so dump in years when I was there. I really feel that it was a favoritism. they put more attention to the other person than me. instant of train us in the same way the other person was way over ahead.  in other works you gotta show you are smart enough for them to give you 100% of their attention if you don't want to feel less like I did, go there and be ready because the first day you are gonna start doing things in the computer. better show your skills if no be ready to feel humiliated.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It is a Monday through Friday company.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The way they micromanage you and how you are to use your PTO.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They seem cool at first, as long as you play their game. But as some as you have to make a change due to life situations they will turn on you. So, when you decide to move forward and go to another company they will not allow you to use your PTO. They rob you of it. I noticed that they will pick you they want in leadership. Regardless if they know the work or not. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Lack of staff. So you are working harder to make up for who is not there.

Kopp is NOT looking for medical billers as advertisement says. I was told by Hiring Manager that ALL new employees start as Customer Service and then when (or if) a Medical Billing position comes open, I would be "considered" for it based upon my experience. I have no experience. Someone I know who worked there years ago said it was a great place to start out and GET experience. I called and spoke to one of the Customer Service ladies and was told that several of them were told the same thing as me but that they have been waiting for as much as 2 years and are looking for other jobs. Do not apply unless you want a billing customer service position.
