Worked as a counselor at king rd location. Caseloads are way too high and documentation/charting feels impossible, they do not train you on maintaining compliant charts then blame you when your charts are bad. You are expected to come in at 6:30-7am to be prepared for each day and work late to finish your documentation, some counselors come in weekends to catch up. Patients are abusive and hostile, most are just there to avoid jail time and as an excuse to avoid court dates. Most have been in and out of rehabs and are not interested in treatment. You have to be a very strict disciplinarian to maintain order in your group therapy sessions- it's more like teaching high school than group therapy. No one shows you how to run your small group and no one explains all of the program rules when you start. I had experience with group therapy but running group therapy with these patients is awful- they yell at you and just want to complain about program rules. The money is pretty good but it hardly feels worth it. Upper management is completely unsupportive and ready to throw counselors under the bus at a moment's notice. Only upside is that the other counselors and the nurses are really nice and supportive- hardly any office politics/drama since everyone is so busy with the patients.

I've been at Malvern for years and since new management took over, changes are being made at a rapid rate and there is lack of support. They are unable to keep employees who have worked there for years and are unable to fill those positions quickly. Therefore, the caseloads are not manageable and the documentation demands are unrealistic. 
Since COVID, this company is not flexible for parents/working families. You are not able to work remotely if your child's school closes down or is being home-schooled. There is no such thing as social distancing as they continue to operate at normal capacity and groups are being held in small group rooms. Good luck convincing patients to wear masks. 
If you were looking for a company to move up or get a promotion with this is not a company to work for. 

Malvern has very few individuals who do provide employees with honest feedback, which subsequently leads to improved clinical knowledge repertoire. Nevertheless, the upper management is often very inflexible, poorly trained and lack the capacity to relate to what clinicians are relaying, both in terms of client-related clinical outcomes and the clinician experience/ concerns pertinent to difficulties they encounter on a day to day basis. The joyful part is working with clients. Administration is challenging, poorly organized and lack effective management skills.

While working at The Malvern Institute I learned that the staff as well as the patients are very expendable. I have watched them get rid of great employees and keep the bad. also I have watched Malvern turn patients away if they have Medicaid or Medicare or no insurance or any money at all and theses people were in dire need for Rehab and or detox treatment. I have watched The Malvern Institute let a supervisor and one of her staff steel over $2,000.00 from  patient and that supervisor and her staff were promoted. So I say this is not a good place for employment nor treatment. The most enjoyable part of my job was helping the one I could get in for treatment and saving a life.

This job takes a commitment and it shouldn't be entered to with an attitude of "it's just a paycheck". This is a job of helping people out of the depths of a dark place who are struggling to reclaim their lives from the disease of addiction. It helps if you yourself are a recovering addict, but it is not a requirement. But if you are a recovering addict, I highly recommend that you have at least 2 years clean and sober and you practice a rigorous program. Benefits are awesome, but with any job there are pros and cons...you get out what you put in. I highly recommend this place to work at!!

Malvern used to be a wonderful place to work, it was like a big family. In the passed 3 years, new "leadership" came in and completely destroyed the culture of supporting and encouraging the staff to using them up until they're burned out then saying, "why aren't you doing more?". The upper management does absolutely nothing while the counselors and office administrators do everything. Management will also routinely "encourage" you to violate insurance and state regulations and when you state you're uncomfortable, you'll be unemployed. I'm not the only person who feels this way and could line up at least 10 other former employees who can tell similar stories.

Malvern Institute is a stressful place to work. addiction itself is hard to work with but upper management repeatedly shows it has no care for employees health or wellbeing  workers are expected to go above and beyond their job description but are not adequately compensated getting as little of a yearly raise as possible  the lower level staff are supportive of one another but everyone higher up is not receptive to staff burnout and continue to run through clinicians. They’ve fired people for relatively nothing but kept staff that have been inappropriate even if they’re sexually or verbally harassing patients

This is the absolute worst place to be employed.   If you have any respect for yourself then run the other way.   Management is completely a disaster especially higher up.  The nursing department has a few nasty nurses who could care less about clients and have no problem telling them and making them feel worse about themselves and their disease of addiction,  let alone giving patients the wrong medications!  The nightime & weekend  management is worse and lack common sense and direction.   This use to be a great place a few years ago but has since gone down hill.   Clients shouldn't even stay here!   Yeah its that bad.

From the first interview I noticed that you were not greeted professionally, nor could you tell who was staff or who was a patient. The trainer ran about her day with little or no regard to you, and didn’t bother to explain things that needed explaining. It was very overwhelming and everyone around me was more concerned with socializing than helping me. I felt like I was a burden. The other staff was fine at times but other times very cliquey and nasty. You feel like your day drags. If you can handle passing long amounts of time with nothing to do and nobody to show you you will be fine.

- hardest part of the job is seeing the clients struggle 
- most enjoyable part of the job is seeing  the change in clients as they start finding their clean and sober selves again
