It was an unconventional route to land a contracting job through Indeed, but the outcome exceeded my expectations. Initially, I had concerns about the legitimacy of the opportunity, but after conducting some research, I decided to proceed, and the process of securing the contract for the marathon turned out to be quite straightforward. If you're anxious about payment, there's no need to worry. Like with any contract work, I typically anticipate receiving payment about a month after completing the job or at least reaching out to the company regarding payment. To my delight, I received my payment within three weeks. They have a specific method for capturing photos, so it's essential to follow their guidelines or consult with your team lead. If I'm offered another chance to work with them, I would eagerly accept, and I encourage you to seize the opportunity if it comes your way!

Unless you are desperate for money this job is not worth your time. They claim they pay a rate based off of how good your photos are, this is not true, they will always find a reason not to pay you a higher rate. I've had my photos published in magazines, medical journals, NFL social media pages and many more. The photos I supplied were flawless but they paid me a low grade rate, once I asked for constructive feedback as to how I could improve to get the higher rate (for better photos) they ghosted me. Marathonphoto rely on bad photos so they can make the most money. They know the marathon runners will buy the photos regardless so they hire bad photographers. This way they make the most money with paying out the least. If you're a beginner photographer or your photos are just overall not good than this is the job for you but don't expect anything other than the lowest rate! 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Staff members were very professional during hiring process and on-site staff. 
They were very up front about how physically demanding the day would be, on your feet for 8-10+ hours. You are expected to provide your own food/snacks & water during the day. Payment EFT was very prompt .

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Being on my feet for a very long day. Pace of shooting is very demanding, which I knew going into job.  My being passionate about photography, the day was very exciting to be part of the team of photographers for such a historic NYC marathon.

Everyone very helpful and supportive.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very demanding shooting schedule.

The company revolves around capturing people at their best. Now know as GradTrak images, they photograph college students graduating and recording them getting ready to make their mark in the world. We also photograph marathon races where people support their favorite cause, sometimes braving the elements of weather, but still having fun. The job requires workers who are people oriented and have a knack or willingness to get right in the middle of things to capture images that are natural. There's really nothing hard about the job if you like having fun while watching people do the same; have fun!

What is the best part of working at the company?
Instructions are clear and easy to follow with minimal oversight. The main camera settings, positions, and photo goals are decided beforehand, so you’re given a lot of space and freedom to get the job done.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It’s not a difficult job; Marathons usually only last a day or two. However, you are on your feet the whole time and there are no scheduled breaks. You’re encouraged to bring your own lunch and eat when you can, just be mindful about meeting your quotas

You can work independently or with a teammate.

Fast pace,  great team of professional photographers to work with,  rewarded for  high number of quality photos taken

I didn’t find it stressful since I strive in fast high volume photo events

Look forward to shooting with familiar team of photographers each year.   My first year they were great with giving me tips and suggestions to successful photos.   

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Meet with the lead and Pick up media vest, media cards.   Then get set up at station that I am shooting at.

One of my first paying photo gigs. Meeting the marathoners and working with other photographers has been a rewarding experience. The team leads and managers are working there with you and offer advice both in lead up to events and during. Your rewarded for quality. You receive a bonus for taking over a certain amount of photos and additional pay for quality. Overall fun experience and I will work with them again.

Meeting new people making New friends, travel and pay fast paced

Sometimes the delay in payment for the jobs and at times the upload process

Fast paced, mixed culture and being outdoors

Start at 4am finish sometimes by 9pm

I have been shooting as a MarathonFoto freelance photographer for almost a year now. 5 events has been a wonderful experiences! Great communication from the main contacts/staff of MarathonFoto. Always clear instructions given from them on the expectations. Team leads/on site staff on the day of event are helpful too. The experience allows to network with other photographers too! 

They supposed to hire me as a photographer but instead to that, they only look for a human machine image face capture. They don't care in real photography they only care in the amount faces captured. The payment is too low and management too bad. 
Extremely bad and old equipment and they forced to work with that.
I definitely don't recommend this company.
