My favorite part about this job is my colleagues. Everyone in my department is supportive and collegial. The benefits can't be beat either. The times allotted for appointments are reasonable and there is adequate admin time. They are also working on integrating AI into our EMR to decrease documentation burden. That being said, there are all of the typical issues with FQHCs with the additional challenge of navigating the majority of visits through an audio interpreter. Pressure to be over 100% booked even with same day cancellations makes the days always hectic and contributes to burnout.  New leadership has made some questionable decisions that led to many staff members (in my department) leaving and feeling unsupported. There is a lot of positive mission -oriented talk that does not come across in the walk of leadership while those in the clinical trenches are doing our best in a broken system.

The Mission of the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center is to provide Health Care to all who apply regardless of ability to pay. They are a well diversified organization with many different cultures and ethnic backgrounds. If you are a strong believer in Community Health, Diversity in the workplace and Community then you would enjoy your stay at EBNHC. The hardest part of the job was my schedule, sometimes I would work 7 days a week, all this was dependent on scheduled events. The most enjoyable part of my job was knowing I was directly responsible for providing Health Care access to thousands of individuals who were undocumented, disenfranchised, poor, homeless, and unfamiliar with the Health Care system

My typical day consists of many different tasks, from speaking to patients, handling any type of billing questions, concerns. working a variety of billing tasks, from denials, claim submission, follow ups before claims become over the filing limit. I specialize in Workers Compensation, as well as Motor Vehicle accidents, Subpoenas in which are billed entirely different. I also do most of the office supply orders, including all the Medical Equipment for the entire Health Center. I also, do a lot of translating for our Portuguese speaking patients.

Great people.  Strong company mission for the community it serves.  Excellent inter-departmental support.  Outstanding leadership team.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Can often be fast paced.  Priorities and leadership goals and directives change frequently.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Open friendly.  The company is great about using space well.  All work spaces are designed well and there is ample space for staff to take a meal and get together for breaks.

Continuously changing.  The company is good about work-life balance and hybrid work is generally available.

The benefits package and flexibility with my schedule

Communication issues between departments and low morale between coworkers no one respects boundaries here at all 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The company is 90 percent Spanish speaking and the clients are also Hispanic too if you don't speak Spanish you won't get promoted and there is no privacy if you are sick or having a family issue.everyone knows about it.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
We are always short of staff and overworked and management is never available for you.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I love working with Seniors and my coworkers were awesome, that made my job easy. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When someone called out of work. That meant you had more task to do.

We all got along and worked great so we were all on the same page.

A day of work consists mostly of providing personal care to patients and any kind of assist they may need. We also spend a great deal of time trying to keep everyone active and entertained as well. Work difficulty varies with departments. Some people work in assisted living facilities, others in Alzheimer's disease units. Seeing the struggles of these folks on a daily basis Is what's most difficult about this job. But we pride ourselves in getting to know how residents and caring for them so that they can receive the best possible treatment. Their joy is the most enjoyable part of the job.

Every day we sit at the front desk and register patients for their appointments. the work-flow is asking them for their DOB, address, full name and verify the insurance. Part of the work was to also make sure that the doctor listed on the commercial insurances was an in-network doctor, otherwise we need to contact the insurance and change it to the primary doctor that the patient has. 
At this job i learned a lot about different types of insurances (private and non private), what type of co payments we take, how to enter the insurances in epic or terminate them.

A typical day here ALWAYS began chaotic! The turn over rate here is HIGH, so it makes sense that a work day was never cohesive because there was always a changing & fluctuating environment. Mornings always consisted of a long line of people waiting to be checked in for appts etc. The management here was atrocious! I never felt part of the team, I always felt like I was being picked on, and it was a never ending battle everyday with co-workers & upper staff! I absolutely hated this job! I would not reccommend this place at all! 

I enjoyed the clinical team I directly worked with but my manager was toxic and condescending.   Also never felt that the management team was responsive to employee concerns.  They also definitely played favorites as certain providers got more work from home time than others. There was never adequate time built into the day to catch up on administrative responsibilities which definitely contributed to my burnout. The patients were wonderful and thankful for the time I spent with them so that's what I miss the most.
