Options Medical Weight Loss

During my year at Options the landscape has changed just about every quarter. In my short time I have seen 3 COO’s, 2 CFO’s and 3 Regional Managers. This was also accompanied by 4 sets of compensation changes (none of them for the better and when employees complained enough some were reverted).

As others mentioned there were mass layoffs from the company which left current clinics short staffed. Due to the shortage some clinics were changed from being opened 5 days a week to 2-3 days per week and managers and staff were expected to split time between 2-3 clinics with A ONE WEEK NOTICE. If you decided that the drive was too far then you were let go. As a result more employees quit. This left the clinics ever more understaffed which drastically affected employee moral and patient care. When brought to upper management they were somehow shocked that forcing employees to double and triple there work load and drive time caused people to leave and offered little support to fill the gaps.

Since I was overseeing multiple clinics and filling many different positions i asked for a pay raise which was swiftly denied and was told a new compensation structure and a company wide alignment of wages were to roll out. (This was promised in Jan 2025 and up until my departure time  in July was never revisited.)

So my advice? If your planning on applying here make sure that you are okay with no work stability and new implementation of systems and processes with the poorest roll outs and communication from the CST team all while every meeting they are “high fiving” each other and patting each other on the back for literally just doing their job…. Then go for it!

I worked at Options Medical Weight Loss, and while it once had potential, it has become entirely too sales-driven and mismanaged. The focus is no longer on patient care or employee well-being—it’s all about hitting unrealistic sales numbers, and if you don’t, you’re either pressured with scare tactics or cut loose.

Medical exams? Barely 10 minutes long. This is terrible for patient care because it doesn’t allow enough time to properly assess a patient’s medical history, address their concerns, or create a truly personalized plan. Weight loss isn’t one-size-fits-all, but these rushed appointments make it feel that way. Patients deserve more than a quick in-and-out visit that prioritizes sales over real health outcomes.

Don’t expect stability—the company constantly rolls out changes without employee feedback, only to backtrack when their “brilliant” ideas fail and negatively impact both patients and staff.

The commission structure is changed frequently, and never in a way that benefits employees. Clinic managers are forced to work overtime without additional pay, and corporate support is nearly nonexistent—you’re on your own when problems arise.

They’ve slashed the marketing budget, pushing that responsibility onto already overworked managers. As a result, consultations have dropped significantly, but leadership still wonders why sales are down. Instead of fixing existing problems, they continue pouring money into opening new clinics while current ones struggle. The greed has become undeniable—mass layoffs, canceled holiday parties (“not in the budget”), and a complete disregard for employee morale.

If you’re considering working here, be prepared for instability, favoritism, unrealistic expectations, and little to no support. They used to care about their employees, but now it’s all about money. Proceed with caution.

Helping patients successfully lose weight and watching them gain self-confidence throughout their journey.What is the most stressful part about working at the company?There is a significant lack of administrative and operational support. Employees who attempt to follow standard compliance and safety rules are often ostracized rather than supported, creating an environment where doing your job correctly can make you a target for unfair criticism. Additionally, the hiring process prioritizes credentials on paper over crucial soft skills, real-world customer service, or practical medical experience, leading to gaps in team capability. There is also very little room for professional growth or innovation.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?

The culture is highly resistant to change and feels heavily driven by exclusive workplace cliques. Leadership is out of touch with modern industry protocols and patient care models, preferring to rely on legacy systems rather than exploring new revenue streams. Tenure is valued far above up-to-date knowledge or actual skill. It is an environment that actively pushes back against modernization, making it incredibly difficult for forward-thinking professionals to implement standard workflows or introduce new ideas.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?

A typical day involves navigating a highly repetitive meeting schedule that consistently highlights the same small group of individuals. Daily operations are also slowed down by having to work alongside medical staff members who lack the necessary practical knowledge but are resistant to feedback or guidance.

The clinic culture is great, as well as the Mission to end obesity. However, they have Health Coaches push processed foods in order for them to make a livable wage, even if the patient wanted to eat a minimally processed diet. They ran stats that showed that the least educated health coaches sold the most of their mediocre protein supplements , which could have lead to the letting go of some of their most educated, passionate team members.  The company was becoming more focused on the $$ and was growing too, big too quickly. Corporate no longer cared about the clinics that had been supporting their growth and often things would just slide through the cracks, and patients were noticing. The clinic hours do not lend well to a good work life/balance, and they allowed for no flexibility, even trying to force employees to work on holidays that were in the handbook as observed by the company, and doing so last minute.
There is no listening to feedback from the clinics, instead, corporate comes up with ideas for changes without taking into consideration the thoughts of the employees actually carrying out said changes and with no explanation for why they were making the changes. The medical providers had very little time with their patients, and were bonused based on the number of patients they saw, this lead to burnout and poor patient care.
Pay structure changed frequently, and generally was not in the favor of the employee.

I've been a part of the Options Medical Weight Loss team for two incredible years now, and as I celebrate this milestone, I can't help but reflect on what an amazing journey it has been. Working here has been more than just a job—it's been an enriching experience filled with support, care, and a deep sense of purpose.

One of the aspects that truly sets Options Medical Weight Loss apart is its mission-driven approach. From day one, it's been evident that the company is dedicated not only to helping patients achieve their weight loss goals but also to fostering a supportive environment for its employees. This commitment to a greater purpose creates a sense of fulfillment that transcends the typical workplace dynamic.

One particular instance that stands out to me is the company's unwavering support during my recent maternity leave. Options Medical Weight Loss understands the importance of family and offers paid maternity leave—a benefit that is sadly not common in many workplaces. Thanks to this policy, I was able to cherish precious bonding time with my daughter without worrying about financial stress. It's moments like these that truly highlight the company's dedication to its employees' well-being. 

Ugh, what an unfortunate company. The idea is there but the execution is terrible. It's obvious everyone works remotely higher up and does not have a faint idea of what is going on in clinics. And when they do visit your clinic, they hide in meetings all day and that's supposed to count as "support". It's pretty laughable.

As a Clinic Manager my Training was 3 weeks being trained on other roles and NOTHING when it came to specific clinic manager training. I was told Clinic Managers need a minimum of 8-12 weeks of training to be good at their job. I was forgotten about even when I asked over and over for training. Higher up roles are always changing so you never know who is in charge of what. 

Unfortunately, the disclosed pay is not where near what was advertised. Clinic Managers make way less than the nurses in the clinic and do 10x more each day. like 10's of thousands less. 

They also hire anyone! and so quickly. People come and go constantly because good candidates are lost in the mix of bad ones.

Overall, a MESS. You work 11-hour days and weekends. Not worth it.

The job started great as an employee in a new clinic, however my clinic grew rapidly and minimal support was offered. After the first mass firing (you can see details on other reviews), the workload for everyone in the clinics doubled, if not tripled because of the change in plan credits.  No compensation was given except for a slight change in the commission structure and that sucked tbh. In fact, it probably worsened bc the joining of 2 roles meant one person couldn’t receive full benefits of one role d/t scheduling. As an MA, the commission didn’t even apply to us. I had to continue managing the front desk, everyone’s schedules, and learn how to do health coaching a to help with the strenuous workload that got pushed onto the others (did so to help them out and because numerous patients were slipping between the cracks concerning their progress check-ins). MA commission SUCKS btw. All in all, the theme was just being overworked and underpaid. They fired a lot of people and did nothing to help the workload, just pushed for people to sell more programs.

A typical day at work involved counseling anywhere from 1 to 10 patients. The counseling session included a weigh-in, selling necessary products to the patient, going over last week's goals and establishing new goals, and anything else beneficial to the patient's weight-loss journey.
I learned a heap of information that tied together what I had learned during my time in under-grad. The management, although new with a new building, was fair and upbeat. I had a wonderful manager, even though I was forced to be laid off. This franchise has only been going since September 2018, and the summer months seem to be slow. The most difficult part of the job was the slowing down during the summer months that ultimately caused my laying off. The most enjoyable part of the job, however, was the amount of control I was given over my patients and responsibility was entrusted with at the clinic. That was something very special, to be trusted at work. We were a tight-knit group there.

The job itself is pretty easy, I think I was paid more than a fair amount for the workload. I learned how to utilize our scheduling system, administer injections, and did a lot of cold calling. Coworkers were great. The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing clients succeed with our programs. The hardest part of the job was sitting for long periods of time and having to limit my advice for clients to what I learned in training. They initially hired me knowing my availability and said they would be happy to work with it but then let me go after less than a month stating they couldn't afford to keep two front desk clerks on staff and opted to keep the full-time person. They also said they would move me up to counselor position but hired another person to fill the position. Overall I feel very mislead and am disappointed that they gave me no notice of being let go.

Absolutely nothing except the trauma bonding you’ll do with your co-workers 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everything! Ethically bankrupt company, no leadership, no consistency, no training. All that matters is money; not the welfare of employees or patients. Illegal practices and no or poor solutions to problems. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Burnout within weeks or months, people just walk out. Beyond toxic! 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Constant stress from beginning to end. 12 hour days, no time to do necessary work because you’re dealing with constant problems. Not enough staff to accommodate patient load but that will never change because they model it that way.
