My extensive successful experience and accomplishments in the ethical pharmaceutical industry at Organon has provided me with the necessary management skills required to excel in a variety of professional management and mentoring positions going forward. 

My typical day at Organon was to assure that all my direct reports were meeting or exceeding agreed upon personal and cooperate expectations both daily and long term. 

The Organon culture which I helped manage and create was to provide employees with a comfortable and transparent environment, with the tools to assist them in meeting both there personal and professional objectives as well as keeping them in alignment with the corporate goals and objectives.   

The most challenging and enjoyable part of my entire professional career is mentoring and managing diverse professionals and providing excellent service to both my team,customers, end users as well as meeting and exceeding all corporation objectives.

Organon treats its employees with respect and offers excellent transparency, but that transparency can be scary. As a growing pharmaceutical organization that spun off from Merck, Organon is still striving to find its financial footing. To its credit, the plan articulated from the beginning is largely the plan it is following, but that plan includes what they refer to as "targeted restructing," which leads to lay offs on what has been an annual schedule. Your individual performance is not considered in determining who survives lay-offs; targeted restructuring results in departments being merged or eliminated, with roles being discontinued regardless of the person filling it. It sounds heartless, but as it has been the plan since spin, its really just determined execution. 

My tenure at Organon Inc/Organon Pharmaceutical (17 years) was the best work environment I have ever experience.

My co-workers were knowledgeable and friendly.  Upper management maintained a tough yet compassionate environment for their employees.  

There was an appropriate balance between rewarding good behavior and reprimanding inappropriate behavior.

Organon was acquired by Schering-Plough in November of 2007 the environment remained positive.

An average, day of work at Organon consisted of running listings for aggregate reports, reconciling data in the global pharmacovigilance database with data in the clinical database, and drafting narrative reports for submission to INDs and NDAs.

The best part of the job was the rewards provided for hard work.

The worst part of the job was the food in the cafeteria; not very good.

The R&D pipeline is currently very limited, which has resulted in reduced workload and the departure of several strong scientific contributors. The organization experiences frequent global reorganizations, creating ongoing instability.

The Procurement management appears heavily focused on short-term cost savings and EBITDA improvement, sometimes at the expense of long-term scientific and therapeutic development priorities. Senior procurement leadership has limited scientific background, which can lead to misalignment with the needs of a research-driven organization.

Additionally, the company carries a high debt burden, raising concerns about long-term strategy and ownership stability. Overall, this environment presents significant challenges for sustained innovation and talent retention.

Cost-Cutting Focus: Organon prioritizes extreme cost savings over innovation, impacting research and development.
Leadership Challenges: Trust in leadership is lacking, and their vision remains elusive to employees.
Values vs. Reality: Stated values don’t align with actual practices, creating a disconnect.
Rigid Structure: The company’s hierarchical structure stifles creativity and collaboration.
Aggressive Management: Managers push relentlessly, leading to burnout.
Hidden Layoffs: Layoffs occur quietly, leaving colleagues bewildered and anxious.
In essence, Organon is a complex maze of challenges, where aspirations clash with harsh realities. 

Organon was great and taught me a great deal about the selling process. I called on 3 different geographies during my time there and 3 different specialist as well, PCP, Ob/Gyns and Pain Management. I did very well there and am fond of my time there.

Each day had it's own unique challenges calling upon specialist in OB/GYN, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine and Primary Care.

Management was fair and open.

Co-workers were hard workers and great to work with.

Hardest part of job was stretching limited budgets.

Most enjoyable part was winning sales awards.

As an MSD spin off, everything on the papers looks good, once we are in the real life, is like living in a virtual reality, where many expectations are not going according to the real situation.
Budget pressure all the time
Not clear strategy and reducing costs became part of the strategy, while the company is still looking to implement costly projects.
Lack of resources and poor behavior in some teams is just allowed

Vision and mission of the company is inspiring however, leaders don’t walk the walk.  Culture is driven by constant state of cost reduction exercises.  Company seems to be in battle with itself to be innovative at the expense of managing day to day operations.   There are still some fantastic people to work with and learn from.

I enjoyed working at organon and it emphasis on work life balance. There is a very diverse group in all departments. There is alot of multitasking but very manageable. I enjoyed not being micromanaged and having clear communication about what was expected of me.
