Once contracted, you will be doing low to middle market surveys for excess and surplus property market (read: mostly dogs) and general liability.  They have specialized forms for lines of coverage requested by their carrier interests - some easier to deal with than others.  Most forms have 'required' answers that may or may not fit what you are really looking at.  The amount of time you spend on each report varies based on how easy it is to connect with a client given whatever contact information is available, how well you can schedule 4 or more in a day so you're not driving too far for each, and how quickly (efficiently) you can fill out the reports, then deal with the inevitable QA rejections.  Even working flat-out, you will be underpaid for the expected value you are required to provide.  I think guys that change out fire extinguishers might make more than you can.  My assessment of the value provided in what we do from the field, with requirements of being our own contractors and providing our own equipment and actually 'doing' the work requested would be more fairly paid at $100 per survey.

The Company is amazing! They offer a lot of diversity and growth. You will be busy and no room to twiddle your thumbs. Fast paced and competitive. The owners and mangers are strictly geared to people that want to row. Learning and hands on are paramount. No one day will ever be repeated. Your attitude and willing to learn and grow will leave you invaluable to success. The inspectors area special group of people that drive the business. Keeping up with them alone is an exciting hand full. The clients counter act as the spine that truly deliver with the demand of inspections. The Agents, well they are agents. Attitude sets the tone with this company. The exposure of more to learn is always endless.  I changed positions 4 times in 8 months so this should tell you watching a pot boil will never happen with Preferred reports. They have two locations, LA and GA. The communication between the two will deceive you as it is truly one big company on its way to greater and beyond. If they choose you there is no mistake and count on them to use you to al your abilities and give you some to add. The Owners are hands on and your opinion will be asked and matters.

You are responsible for scheduling inspections and only get paid for the inspections you actually complete. This means you will spend 2-3 full days per week handling scheduling that you are not paid for. You are given files with bad phone numbers, no phone numbers, etc. so you have to spend additional time tracking people down. The people you deal with are not happy to see you, and most have no idea an inspection is even being requested by their insurance carrier. This means you have to constantly convince people you are not some sort of scam artist, etc. The management is terrible. They will belittle you, give unrealistic expectations without giving you any training, and are never available when you call, yet expect you to be at their beckon call when they call you. The pay equates to minimum wage or less when you factor in all the administrative time (making phone calls, tracking people down, driving to no-show appointments, and completing reports just the way they want them).

I have been an Independent contractor for Preferred reports for 2 years. I have done interior and exterior inspections, and they have kept me busy consistently. Management is also great to work for as they also provide training and support when needed. Its always been an open door policy to contact upper management and they always love feedback on what they can do to make the company better.   When I started with Preferred Reports, I was doing exterior cases in Alabama, and they started expanding to a point they picked up a new client in Mississippi, and have kept me closer to home.  I still work inspections in Alabama, but that is by my choice when I ask them for work.  The company keeps growing and I have seen fast promotions.  Just like any other job, sometimes there can be challenges when trying to make appointments for interior inspections, and it can sometimes be time consuming when calling people, then routing inspections, and then uploading cases, but that goes for any company.   I look forward to watching the company grow.

The people who negotiate the fees have never been an inspector. First, you have to track down the owner to make an appointment to see the property. Often, they don't know you are going to come and they have little interest in getting back to you. At other times, the owner does NOT want you to come and keeps cancelling; hoping you will go away. Next, you have probably a half hour drive to get there. Once there, you spend more than an hour taking about 60 pictures. Another half hour ride home. Writing the report is easy but all photos have to be uploaded and labeled in perfect order. It's time consuming. After you take out for gas money and wear and tear on your car, you are making about $7/hour. Most of the time; there is not enough work. Their solution to this is sending you farther away from your home for the same fee. Some drive-by inspections you do for $12-$13. They are always hiring because the fees are so poor; no one can make a living. No problems with the people. All were nice.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The inspection job it's self is fun, you meet a lot of great people in the community and see some very cool places. The part that drains you is the endless report righting, and the QA department. All inspections must pass through QA, and they will reject your inspection for the silliest reasons which prolongs your pay. As a single parent trying very hard to make ends meet, the weekly pay was very much needed however because of the QA department, that weekly pay averages out to be about 400 or so a week. That just can't work! 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Actually getting these people scheduled for an inspection. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Everything is remote, the people you deal with at the company are in a completely different time zone so it's hard for communication. 
The only person I liked was my territory manager.

Strong work ethic is expected as this is a customer driven operation where we are measured on quality information, time service and  communication up and down the line both internally and externally.  

Unlike most equity or large corporate operations, this is run like a family business with loyalty both given and expected.  Client partners largely come by word of mouth as the company has no marketing department. 

I believe PR is the best of the best in a difficult and everchanging market.

Low turnover amongst internal employees and external contractors.  Client retention is historically excellent as they strive to build long term relationships.

Basically you're your own boss. You work as an Independent Contractor, therefore no benefits. So if you have a family, this is not the job for you. If you want to meet different people, don't want to be confined to an office, like taking pictures and like driving, you would enjoy this line of work. You inspect people's home for their homeowners insurance company by taking specific photos and completing a report online. It's a relative easy job, inspections are time sensitive (3 weeks to complete). I thoroughly enjoyed this job, but leaving in the South, the summer heat was too much and I just couldn't handle that part. Give it a try if you're looking for something different and want to work for yourself.

Preferred Reports is great. This is a team environment with help and training available to everyone, anytime. Management is great. As a part of the Quality Control team, each report is different which makes the work exciting. The hardest part of the job is reviewing reports that need a lot of work because an inspector is new or inefficient. This is a company that is quality minded so they expect quality work which sets them apart from many other companies motivated by the bottom line. I highly recommend Preferred Reports LLC.

I have been in this business for over 20 years working with various Loss Control companies. This one was the worse. The pay is mediocre and the management hovers. I can deal with the pay scale: you sign up for what you sign up for. I could not deal with how one Is  not treated as a strategic partner, but rather as an employee which defeats the purpose of independent consulting work. You are better off with EXL and US Reports or even National Safety and Risk. Those
Companies treat pros like pros.
